Something I just thought of, the "sharp" edges for the boot holes, they don't dig into boots at all do they? Seems like with excessive movement they could dig into the rubber a bit much?
Or am I just being stupid?
Are you referring to the stack holes in the back plate? The sealing ring(s) on the stack are very snug, there is virtually no movement, and a tight seal. In addition, engine vibration is being absorbed by the stack body.
Yeah, what Brian said, plus, the rubber boots are much thicker at the sealing ring end than OEM Honda items, so that's definitely not a concern, not that I've ever seen an OEM airbox do any damage to the sealing rings on the OEM boots either.
I had a problem last ride I did on my K1 with Brian's "Anti Pod" installed, I missed a gear (3rd to 4th) at high RPM, which resulted in a slight loss of power, but more worryingly, a loud rattle in the top end. Oh no........
Last night I hunted for the source of the top end rattle, and was relieved to find that it was a loose lock-nut on my #3 inlet valve. Woohoo! I re-adjusted the clearances, and happily, no more rattles! While I was at it, I decided to install bigger main jets as it has been running quite lean with 120's and the "Anti-Pod".
I've got a set of 132.5's somewhere, but couldn't find them. Poop. Hmmnnn, but I did have a 1.5mm drill bit and a heap of old 105 jets, so I thought, why not? I set four of them up in my lathe and drilled them all out, then installed them. (spilling just enough gas on my engine to make the silver paint run, fcuk it!)
Anyway, I fired it up, and, well, FARK! It absolutely screams up to the redline and sounds wicked! I'm a tad worried that 150 mains may be too rich under load though, so I think I'll get a 1.4mm drill bit (or better still, a proper set of jet drills) and experiment a bit with some more old jets. The driveway was blocked with cars, and it was getting late, so I only rode it around the back yard, but when I attempted an impromptu burnout on the concrete path, I swear the front wheel started to come up!
The downside was that my wife saw me doing it and scolded me mercilessly, (I tried to tell her that my hand slipped off the clutch lever, but she wasn't buying it) and Felix, my woosy little black cat, jumped the fence and hid under my neighbors house, and wouldn't come out for over 2 hours! Man, was I in the doghouse! Oh well, it was probably worth it........
