Topic: Kawasaki ZR 750

Hi, I'm about to buy a 1991 Kawasaki ZR 750... Does anyone has a review of this bike?
It's curious to me that it is a DOHC but only has 8 valves... first time I heard that..

The engine is the same old Kawasaki Z,KZ,GPz 750 aircooled DOHC 8-valve, and that DOHC/8-valve thing is very common in old Kawasakis, at least 650-1100 aircooled models.Not sure about smaller engines.

It's a very simple and basic machine, pretty reliable, easy to maintain and work on.

Hey! I is awesome, I fell in love instantly

The bike was like 200 km away from my house and the way back home in the new kawa was very exciting. The only bike I use to knew was my '77 CB550... and the 750 its way to different.

I'm happy with her (the bike) and it is in excellent conditions 23k miles stock.. the only thing I've detected its a small oil leak in the right side of engine, i will try to fix it next weekend.

But i can't find a lot of info in the internet about that bike...

Congrats on the new ride!
That bike was sold as Zephyr 750 in Europe, maybe that could help you find more information.Give it a try anyway.
I'm currently building a 1983 GPz 750 for my brother and as I said earlier, the engine is basicly the same.

How's the oil leak? I assume it's warm where you live and you've been riding your arse off
I'm stuck with snow and cold weather, no riding for at least 4-5 months.

Yes, I've been riding the new bike, it has been like 8 or 9 degrees in the mornings, that's very cold to me but any snow or things like that.

The oil leak was from an hole beneath the right side cover, I try to tight it but I broke the cap :s so I put a normal carter plug, but the leak still there, it doesn't leave an oil mark in the garage floor, but when I ride it my boot get like oil splashed, I will try to fix it in weekend.

It's a shame that you have a very cold weather and you can't ride, but at least you have time to fix all the bike.
Do you thing that if I need a gasket set for the Kawa I'll find it at the U.S?

I have been looking for a tail light, but the only one I found its at UK :s

8-9 degrees celcius? Sounds like Finnish summer if it's a bad year
If I got this right, the plug you mentioned is aluminum, with an O-ring?
There's one on both sides of the engine.Get a new plug, O-ring, don't overtighten and you are good to go.

I'm sure you can find any necessary parts from US, they have plenty of GPz 750 etc. Kawasaki's there.

I haven't had time to work on the GPz lately... my brother is too lazy to do anything on his own so it's all up to me

I have a 1973 CB 750, 1983 GSX 1100 E and I dragrace a 1982 GSX 1100 E streetbike, 1327cc engine, JMR-cylinder head etc. etc.
Quickest bike in Finnish Championship Streetbike-category this season with a 9.932
Next season will be another story, turbo's are allowed and some other changes to the rulebook also.
