New member saying hi
« on: November 03, 2010, 01:26:07 PM »
Hi.

After shopping for a while I recently acquired a beater 1975 CB550K1.  I've been lurking for a while and decided I should introduce myself because I'll probably have a question or two I need help with.

I'm new to SOHC Hondas, but not Hondas or motorcycles in general.  I've been riding for about 20 years and have had a few bikes in that time.  The oldest was a 1981 CB750K that I sold last year.  That one made me want something else kind of old so the search for a SOHC CB began.  I went for the 550 because of the UJM looks and wet sump engine (I don't want to mess with an external oil tank right now, maybe later).  Anyway, this is it:

It's actually in better shape that I thought, or wanted for that matter.  I was looking for something rough to modify but since this one is so complete I may just put it back the way it should be, pretty it up, and keep it.  Or sell it and buy a crappier one to modify.

Laters,
john

Scottly, that would be tough.  See that shed behind the Jetta in the top pic?  The NSU is in there, in the back, behind all the lawn maintenance gear.  I might be able to get a crappy pic next time I cut the grass.  ;)

Welcome to the club house, John.  Membership are simple, and we allow girls.  Let me offer you a warm secret handshake and a 'hello.'  Looking forward to seeing more of your project as you get it underway.  Some of us are fans of modded rides, and many here love (read: demand) a resto - so either way, you're good to go with the crowd.

Welcome! Im about 1.5 hours south in Bluffton SC. I probably will ride to Augusta in march with my 7yr old. The Bomb plant Rt125? will be fun for us. The pic in my Avatar is from Clyo GA . That bike looks good to me. Youll find a seat here in the for sale section if you check often enough. Theres someone making sidecovers too and I think the 550 ones are coming soon. Is the discotech with the Snakeshow still downtown? Nice place ::)

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Bender, the was my ad in the Columbia CL.  :D  I had ads in Augusta and Atlanta as well.  Never did get much action from them.  And the Discotheque Lounge is still downtown, but I've never been in so I don't know about the shows.

Stev-O, the seat will get replaced, or at least re-done.  I want to use the base to make my own, but that will have to wait until it's alive and safe to ride (tires, brakes, chain, sprockets, etc.).

I think I've decided to mod it.  I really would like to have a 550 version of this:

It was built by these guys: http://www.wrenchmonkees.com/
