New pads won't fully mate with the rotor at first, especially if there are grooves and ridges in the rotor.  But, the pads should get better with repeated friction events.
The stationary pad s/b .006 inch, per manual instructions.

I like to do an accelerated break in with new pads, doing about 10 panic stops in a row from 50-70 MPH.

Thanks TT. I need to get in there with a smaller feeler gauge for the static pad. I am sure the rotor ccomdition is not helping this whole thing.

Thanks for the info, it's good to have a little reassurance with something as important as brakes.

Don't be afraid to wet sand down the rotor with the black 400 wet/dry paper to deglaze the rotor.

Good call on the 400 grit sanding. Made a world of difference on the rotor. Quick clean with brake cleaner and its feeling pretty smooth.
