What year did Honda start using electronic ignitions?
« on: November 11, 2010, 02:33:30 PM »
A friend of mine is looking to get her first bike. She wants something classic-esque but we figure the easier to work on, the better. One part of that is not having to adjust points. So what year did Honda make the switch? Was it different for different models?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

125 bucks will get her a Dyna-S ignition to replace the points on any of the sohc4's. ;)

1st cdi type was the cb250/400t and the DOHC 750/900, at least in UK it was!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

My foggy memory of the 70's pulls up1978 as the first year Honda started with electronic ignition, not a documented fact but a recollection of the time I spent as a Honda mechanic.
