Mini Mikuni carb questions
« on: November 18, 2010, 04:31:15 PM »
Not sure where this might go but I need help with a generator carb. I have a Coleman powermate OHV2800 generator with a suzuki engine and a mikuni carb. I have looked everywhere I can think of including google and yahoo search engines, but I can't find a float and needle kit for this carb. The only writing I can find on it is Mikuni Corp and Made in Japan, no model numbers I can find. I don't have a set of calipers but the inner bore of the carb is the same diameter as a dime. The float and needle are plastic and the needle is mounted on the float with a spring on it's shaft.

Anyone having any ideas where to get a kit please let me know. It would be a great running generator if it weren't for the gas pouring out the venturi.

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

Does it look like this?

Carbs are available here but no kits listed
http://www.arkansas-ope.com/POWERMATE_GENERATOR_PARTS.html

I've been looking for a few minutes and I don't see anywhere that even mentions Coleman generators with suzuki engines, they did use many different engines though and the listings I saw may not go far back at all.

Here's one place that may be worth a call, maybe they have a parts guy who can help?
http://www.jackssmallengines.com/

I've found a few places that mention that Coleman doesn't offer any engine parts (since 1997) and to go directly to the engine manufacturer...
Good luck, maybe some of this will help.

Alan, that is exactly the right Carb, and I checked out Arkansas OPE and couldn't find it. Going back and looking again. Jacks Small Engines told me they didn't deal with suzuki engines and told me to find a suzuki dealer. Even the suzuki dealers have told me they don't list a carb that small. Which is why I came here, that carb is edentical in every way I can see to the one I need to fix or replace.

Back to OPE for me to see if I can find it. One stumbling block is that the model number is unreadable on the generator label.

I would try a local small engine repair shop.

Yeah, it's way down on the page, here's a screen shot with some part numbers and price, says it's for a suzuki 2800 ohv powermate.... A little pricey at $107 but cheaper then a new generator i guess.
Good luck with your search, this was the only spot I can find any reference to suzuki engines on powermate generators, every place else only lists Tecumseh and Briggs.

I tried to McGuyver it with a dip in permatex but it won't stay attached, even Ultracopper won't hold. Trying to figure out of something else will work. I Emailed OPE hoping for a kit but they won't be open til tomorrow.

If all else fails I'll go to the local Napa parts and see if they have a needle close enough to work, if not the whole generator will be going up on Craigslist.

Right now $130 for a tiny carb is more than I can afford and I don't absolutely need the genset, just nice in case a storm knocks out my power.

Yeah, 130 is a bit high. You could probably convert it to propane for less than that and forget about finding a needle.
