Hi all,I am in the process of emigrating to vancouver(New West)and am wondering how much insurance will be for my 73 Cb750k?Any one have a ballpark figure I can be looking at?I am 43 if age has anything to do with it,been endorsed for about 20 yrs.Thanks to any canucks who reply. :)

For the most part you'll probably crap yourself when they quote you. (from what I've heard some of the other guys paying in the States)

For my 78' I'm looking at approx. $1000/year....had my bike license for 6 years.   This is from my current Insurance company... I plan on doing some shopping around before I lock in.    I'm hoping to get it down a couple hundred more.  Also considering your age and time on 2 wheels... you'll probably be half that.

I'm in Ontario though...and apparently we have some high rates... may be less in the Couver'!

no sh*t.My wife is Canadian and just got promoted.She's the "professional"in our family,I have always been blue collar.The family farm is in ferndale so I will just keep its collectable plates and call it a day.I am kind of nervous moving on up,but it is for the sake of my 4 year old.I want the taxes I pay go to health care and not a WAR machine.I do realize I will be paying a lot in taxes.

I just got my renewal for the year, starting in January.  This policy covers two of my bikes, the 2003 Goldwing and the 1981 CB750-K.  My 1974 CB350F has to be covered elsewhere as it is over 30 years and this company doesn't cover vehicles that old ???.  At any rate the renewal is $557 for full coverage on the Goldwing and $305 for just Liability on the CB750-K. 

These rates seem pretty reasonable to me for the location I'm in (Ontario) except that I can't ride both bikes at the same time.  Compared to other locations, these Canadian rates are still probably high.

In BC you have the option to license ensure older vehicles (including motorcycles) as vintage or "collector" as I believe they are called.  In fact, a "collector" plate can be applied and used on more than one old vehicle, such that you are ensuring only one is ridden at a time.  Hence, insurance on a collection of older vehicles is considerably less than it would be elsewhere (e.g. in Ontario) as you don't need to pay for individual coverage for each.

Good on ya dude and welcome to the "So I married a Canadian" club. Don't be fooled by the "socialist" label, Canada, especially BC is an awesome place! Everything that is public is nice and clean, at least compared to our state. If this place keeps getting worse down here (Thanks for that Tim Eyman) my wife and I will be heading north as well some day soon.

My wife is in healthcare and she always shocked at the way America treats it's less fortunate. Not just the poor but the elderly, handicapped, war veterans, etc. Anyway depresses me to think about it so I'll got back to tinkering with my bike  ;D

Welcome to Canada!

Insurance in B.C. is expensive, but the coverage is good and we insure for uninsured motorists so you don't have to worry about selling the house to pay medical etc.

Collectors status will reduce your annual costs to somewhere in the $400.00 range, but you might have to remove the fairing to get approved. Collector plates are given to stock collector bikes and not customs.

Moving to a new town can be a bit unnerving till you get to know the place and the people, so drop me a note when you get in town and maybe we can show you around.

Bart, I know others are far more familiar with insurance outwest but I know in my case (and a hint for HedNut) that it makes a huge difference moving all your insurance to one company. My CBR went from 1200/year to 600 when I moved my cars and house to Staefarm.

Weird thing is they seem to insure by CC so my CX500 is almost exactly the same as the CBR was!!!

Currently I am paying around 600/year. Ofcourse throw in 2 cars and a house and I am up to about 360/month!

Unfortunately in B.C. we are subject to the government run insurance monopoly of ICBC for all our basic liability insurance. The private sector can offer collision and comprehensive (fire & theft) but ICBC will have to underwrite the main policy.
