Well, Bill, when you're right you're right. The plain fact is that I just like motorcycles. "If it's got two wheels and a motor" etc, etc.

So if it seems like I'm being harsh on the "CR750", I'm not really trying to be. Like I said, I just don't "get" it, but most of you here seem to, so I guess I should shut my face hole.  :D

Oh, and twostrokecrazy: I once owned a "euro only" Suzuki 250 with a 4" over front end, naugahide saddlebags, and a two foot wide roller on the back for pacing bicyclists.

No one else had one of those, either, and that's not bragging. As soon as I could manage it, I didn't have one either!  :D

Ha ha, "shut yer face hole", Noel! Just taking the piss mate, but geez, you really DONT get it, do you? It's a "retro" CR750 rep mate, maintaining the original look and theme, but with some beautifully engineered modern components.

I will one day build a modern "Triton" (Triumph engine in Norton featherbed frame) using a new Hinkley produced "Bonny" engine in a repro (McIntosh, probably) frame, but with modern components and brakes, it'll maintain the theme to the point where old farts will come up and say "I used to have one of them", when of course, my bike was never around when they were riding the original "Tritons" back in the 1960's.

As far as a CB750 not being able to reliably handle 89 RW HP, Rex Wolfendon here in Oz builds CB750  based engines of up to 1200CC, that reliably produce in excess of 140 BHP! Talk to Mike Rieck in Boston Noel, he can do similar things for you! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

A karma point for Noel. I know what he means.

If you want performance, you can buy a modern sportbike. If you want originality, only an original CR750 can do. If it's a replica it's a replica. The CR750 was so one of a kind that if it's not the real McCoy, it really doesn't matter whether it's capable of 89 HP or 150 HP.

If I wanted a replica, it would be for the looks, so I wouldn't really care much about the performance. The more money you put on ot the more expensive it gets to the point of becoming senseless.

Take, for example the Porsche 356. I would have one anytime, but they are scarce and expensive. And its performance cannot be compared to any modern roadster. So I would have no trouble buying a UK-made replica, with a VW beetle engine. I want it for the looks, not for the performance. Any untrained eye would be able to tell it from a real 356, but I wouldn't mind because I was not intending to fool anyone.

Building a Triton sounds like a cool idea. BTW, have you seen the modern Norton built in US? They have all the modern performance with a hint of that classic look. Terry, I recall the McCandless brothers (or at least one of them) is still alive. Would he be able to tell a modern Featherbed frame -with those state-of-the-art welding and tube bending- from an old one?

Also, there is some people rebadging Urals and selling them as classic BMW's. Though the technology is the same, it's not the same bike for obvious reasons.

getting back to the CR750 subject, I could make my own replica anytime if it is just that I want to customize my bike to my liking -like if I make a cafe or a bobber- but there is a point of no return when either the bike style becomes so personal, or the money you spend becomes so high, that nobody else will be willing to pay what you have put on it. You say modern choppers are selling like hotcakes. Somebody spend 70.000 bucks on a chopper adapted to his height, and with a colour scheme of his liking. One year later he becomes bored and sells it for 60.000 grand because "the bike is almost new". So what? What if I have a different height or just a different style? You are asking me to pay 60.000 grand for a bike YOU chose? No thanks, I rather pay 70.000 and choose one myself.

Woo-hoo! Karma!  :D

As far as the "CR750" goes, I'm really not trying to start any fights. We're talking about opinions of its appearance, and "debating" that would be as silly as arguing whether blue is a good color or not.

Having said that,Terry is still wrong.  :P ;D

Seriously, I understand the point, and can even see why folks would like the bike. My POV is simply that, rather than being a modernised homage to the classic CR750, it looks to me more like an old bike paying homage to modern equipment. The same effect can be had by putting wide alloy wheels and an aerodynamics package on an old MG.

Which would apparently sell by the boatload in Australia.  ;D

I keep hearing the "Sportbike" being brought up. Now that's what I don't understand.
But, then I don't really care about them anyway. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate them, I don't
know. I do know that you can total on of them out with just body damage. I've always preferred
bikes without a bunch of "stuff" on them. Now, even though I don't care for them and can't
think of 1 that I'd want, that doesn't mean that I'm against them. I may comment that "I
wouldn't ant 1, wouldn't buy 1 or whatever. I promise you that I'd never come down on a guy
because he did something to his, bought a certain bike or liked a certain bike and I hope no one
gets that idea. It should be,"To each his own". and with that, I'm outta here.  Bill :) ;)

My 2cents...

I am a big fan of the Ebay CR in question. Not my cup of tea, but it is sweet.
Reminds me of the CB that user OHIOCAFERACER is building , with the modern front-end and such..

To each his own , but for that kinda cash , I would go and buy a newer rocket, and not have to
deal with the older "issues" that a 30+ year old bike brings..Those new Ducati cafe bikes are sweet, and would prob. go that route, and I just might !  ;D

Nuh uh, mate, it'll have a Cox lawnmower engine in it!

It'll maintain the theme to the point where old farts will come up and say "I used to have one of them"

You mean your current peers?

Terry, any comments?  I know you like Ducati's!

Have a great day, Terry!

Ha ha, "POV"s or "Opinion's" are like #$%*s mate, everybody has one, and some of our wives are married to one, so "shut yer face hole", Noel! (I really love saying this, it's like some kinda hypnotic mantra.........................) ;D

Bill440 was rite about the sportbikes and total with bodywork only. I went to an auto auction with a friend a couple of weeks ago and there were 15 or 20 sportsbikes there several I hit the starter button and they fired up, I think I could have got any one of them and rode off, just body damage.  Dannie
