Need Help Finding a Riedel Imme R100 - 1949-50-51
« on: November 19, 2010, 07:15:40 PM »
Guys, I want to find my own Imme R100 motorcycle. I saw one at Barbers and now just can't get my mind off it's design brilliance. There were 12,000 made and distributed mostly in the US in 1949-50 and 1951. Someone you know has one they'll sell. I need your help locating one that I can buy.

Thanks,
Gordon

I did a quick google and found one for 10,0000 bucks. Too pricey for me.

You could almost fabricate one yourself using a bicycle as a starting point

And some nice pics here too.

That's my dream bike also.

I have only seen 1 in person at the BMW dealer in Baltimore a few years ago.
Good luck on your search and PLEASE,PLEASE post it when you do find one.

Holy Cow that bike has so many cool features!  Single sided fork and swingarm, monoshock (or is it monospring?) Adjustable damping front and rear suspension, a potentially great handling backbone frame, probably weighs 150# too.  I'm imagining it wouldn't be hard to build a street legal  clone based on a titled frame neck and some very light and sporty components bolted up to a hot little Honda single, add some very sticky tires and it'd be great fun. (even without most of the cool features it could be pretty cool to have)

I've gpt a monoshock bicycle that uses a similar design but uses box section spar instead of round tubing.
Find a nice little 50cc engine and it could be done without a title in Indiana.

NOt in the same league but here's an attempt at the vintage look

The last pic.. what a styletard... ::)

Coulda looked soooooo MUCH BETTER had he used a twinbar frame.. and built tank to suit it.. them late frames look shorter and front downtube come upward too soon and does not look as good as earlier frames.. caliper brakes ruin it too..imo..

The IMME would be hard to buoild even close.. no motors look close, cept a few Italian ones... The Imme also was made in a twin, but I have not seen even a pic....

The swing arm is also the exhaust pipe and the engine and rear wheel "see-saw" on the swing arm pivot.

I'm not onboard with the coolness of that exhaust setup, it's a neat idea though and I guess its needed with the engine mounted to the swingarm.  Now just use a sprotor in the back to combine brake disk and sprocket using a hidden caliper in the swingarm...

I want the original bike, not a copy. One in all-original, 47 mile condition sold in Las Vegas in January 2010 for less than $10,000. This gives me hope that I can find one in need of restoration for a fraction of that price. I want to restore mine - that's where the education comes from - where I get to see the "what and why" of it's original design. It's not the bike, it's the journey...........well, the bike is always nice to have at the end....

Thanks for all the inputs! I'm still waiting on where to pick mine up :)

I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Someone in AHRMA has one, and was seen riding it in the daytona pits a few years ago.
I don't have a name though.

I want to be like you when I grow up. 8)  Perhaps some of the larger older Federal libraries will have some useful info for you to go on?

They are very interesting bikes, I too have always been fascinated by the Imme. Doubt you are going to come across one of those anywhere other than in a collection, at a major auction, or for sale by a bike broker. They always see to be priced around 10k. Blue Moon Cycle had one for sale a little while back, not sure if they still have it.

good luck to find one. They dont go cheap. My grandfather did roadracing in the mid fifties with an imme and his bike is in a museum now in my hometown. I tried to buy it back but the price was way out of my range. look in some german websites, guess most of them are still in germany.
before:
Kreidler RMC(50cc)
CB400N(first bike)
RD350LC(more than one)
XS850(great bike)
CB900F(wish i still have it)
FZR1000(too fast)
Rickman CR900(sold for a good price)
now:
Rusi 125
CB 125 CL(just for fun)
Yamaha XTZ 125
CB750P7(mystery bike)
