Can we get a close up on this?  I think I can see a wing that looks backwards, but it's hard to be sure.

Subtle? Did you say subtle? Come on man!

And Florence, you can just chuck those side panels my way, :D I'll pay shipping.

A few years ago I did throw away a really spotless petrol tank, in its original paint, because it was too smart for my bike and I didn't have the room for it and I didn't think anyone else would want it.  I do regret it now though, it was before the days of ebay when nobody wanted to ride SOHC fours anymore.

Yeah and I'm sure there were tens of thousands of HM300s dumped in the trash in favor of the 'new' 4-1s. I'm guilty of that one myself back in '71'.

my dads 70 had the emblems on backwards since he got it maybe 12 or 13 years ago. here is a pic of how it sat before we did a little work to it. the pic is kind of blurry but you can still tell. the second pic is what it looks like now. amazing what flipping those emblems around does to the bikes overall looks.
old

new

by the way, we have since put his honda emblems on the tank.

Yes, but in my opinion that was a good idea.  Why anyone would go back to those four heavy and ugly pipes is beyond me.

You can't be serious ??? It's call restoration. Besides, there's really no comparison to a set of HM300s, 4 in 1 or not.

I am serious, I really don't like that big chrome look.  If you want to restore, what period should we go back to?  When these bikes were first used people were making all kinds of modifications, including chucking away those heavy pipes.

To each, his own. If we all had the same likes, all of our bikes would be the same and boring.

You are all a bunch of Sons-a-b$$ches.....

I am going to be completely distracted and tormented for the next 4 hours at work till I can get home to check the K3. I've had it for a few years and never thought to check.

Oh wait, I will only be tormented, I'm already distracted posting on here while I should be working ;)

HAHAHAHHHAAAAHHHHAHAHHA  I damn near pee'd!

Well you should know that everyone you meet and everyone you pass on the street will be looking at your emblems to see if they are properly oriented. That's the price you pay. I hope you've learned something from all of this. I certainly have enjoyed it. ::)

I will now!  Frack if I have never heard of this.  I hadn't payed attention to the diamonds until a couple days ago and NOW you bring this up!

I pictured it on your mind the rest of the day bugging you until you looked. Btw, were they right? lol

Yep, they were correct!

Now if only I could find the correct tank badges.........

If you look close mine are gold (to match the pinstriping on the tank) and they are from a 750F so they have the tiny SuperSport written on the bottom edge. I have since removed the pinstriping, and now am currently looking for a set of silver HONDA tank badges to match the side covers.

And yes, it did nearly drive me crazy. As soon as I got home I headed straight for the garage!!

While you're at it, make sure your piston return springs and muffler bearings are oriented correctly. Worth 10 points at any show I've ever been to. Come to think of it, I've never been to a show. ;D

I've seen them knock off points for muffler bearings. heck, I've seen em knock off points when it wasn't Japanese air in the tires!   ;)

These images might help with the muffler bearings!
