Carb spitting
« on: March 15, 2006, 03:52:07 PM »
Step 1, search for topic...

#4 carb on my 78 cb750f3 is spitting/spraying gas out the carb intake when given throttle.  It was leaking out of the intake rubber till I removed the air box.  So, stuck float?  Foreign object in around the needle seat?
Gas comes out after I guess the bowl is filled and drains out of the carb even when sitting.

Update:  1st tapped on carb bowl & body while running (bigger hammer always better) then blew an obstruction out of the hose coming off the bottom of the bowl.  Did not have any leaks....
I figure as soon as I reconnect the airbox and get things together it will leak again.  Any bets?

Sounds like a sticky or stuck float needle, and I agree it will probably leak once you install the air box.
Good luck.

While you have the air box off, drop the bowl off of that carb and check out the floats. Could be either a stuck or sticky float or obstructed needle valve. You can check them both while it is on the bike. Careful, though, gravity will be working against you if you take anything off.

I took the bike out for a couple of miles between rain showers this afternoon.  No leaks, I'm betting it was an obstructed needle.  Put a new UNI filter in and had no performance issues.  Now to get a new shield for my cafe fairing and I'll be back to pre-dump status.

As for dusterdude's quote, kind of reminded me of the rain here in Oregon.
