My neighbor of 20 years has a 1979 CB750 DOHC in his garage that he bought new in 79. I didn't even know he had it until today. Been stored in his garage for quite a few years. It's in almost new condition, only 17000 miles. He was thinking about selling it, but changed his mind. Wants to get it road ready again so the 2 of us can do some riding next spring. I'm looking forward to that. Its a good looking bike, but in my opinion my 750 K6 SOHC is much better looking than his DOHC. Comparing them to a woman, my SOHC is the knockout that makes you take a 2nd,3rd, and 4th look at, where his DOHC is just average and after the first look you really aren't interested in the 2nd.
What is it about these SOHC????

The SOHC/4 is a singular motor design recognized around the world.......something like a Vincent, a Norton Commando, a Triumph T100/T110 pre-unit, or a BSA A10.

The sohc 750 will rule the world..

 When all the modern bikes plastic, has warped and crumbled, and the ultra lightweight diecasting on carbs and injectors, have warped or cracked beyond (affordable) repair.. the sohc 750 will still be running and putting on miles..

 Pretty soon it will come down to "is enough of the plastic still there?" to make a decision wether to buy a classic bike..

 besides who wants a bike without a kicker.. ???

There is sooooo much plastic on my bike it is crazy.  I have repaired the plastic in many places.  Always worried I will need to repair a tab when I need to take it apart to get to something.  She is perty though.  Yammy does not make the parts anymore, NOS is basically non-existent and what you find is someones else s broken/repaired stuff.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

There is a classic aesthetic about the Honda SOHC's. All of them really, the singles, twins, fours. Just a stable of really stunningly attractive machines, well thought out, well executed, well built. It is very difficult to find a large company that can adhere to all of those requirements across such a broad product range.

The SOHC4 was actually the pattern for the UJM, coined by CYCLE magazine in 1976, pre- Honda DOHC.

applied retroactively to transverse mounted 4 cylinder bikes, naked, front disc, etc. incl the 69 CB750. I remember reading the CYCLE issue whne the UJM was first used.

Still, your point that the SOHC is the standout in terms of attracting people, I agree.

The SOHC as UJM is unique to Honda I believe?

Something about that DOHC head, with generally bulkier looking carburetors, which, while the better platform for making power, loses some of its down to earth, I can still be understood by a mere human, look, that the SOHC has.
