Today Hush got "road raged"!
« on: November 23, 2010, 12:13:07 AM »
Well car park raged to be precise, I was driving along the rows of cars and had to stop for some pedestrians and a car reversing out so I drove straight into that park.
Some arsehole pulls up behind and starts tooting and shaking his fist, I get out and go see what his problem is, apparently it's me!
He (according to him) had been patiently waiting for that particular park and I had stolen it from him, I was an arsehole and a c*#t.
I tried to reason with him, afterall I deal with much bigger and dangerous #$%*s than this scruffy little oik everyday at work.
I suggested that he take one of the other 300 spare parks just behind us.
He said "what would you do if I came round there and punched you in the head"?
Now my first reaction was, bring it on I'm a little out of practice...but then I reasoned that this was a very public area and he had 2 wee girls in the back seat, seeing Daddy getting his head bounced off the road by a stranger could well be detrimental to their mental health.
So I said in my most "Official" voice very calmly "I'd have to arrest you"!
He nearly choked, guess he was thinking just my luck to rage at an off duty cop. ;D
I actually do have the powers of arrest and am well versed in them but my juristiction is only on Prison grounds. ;)
So he screams off and I go look for a trolly, Jaffa goes back to the car to checkout something with her daughter Ren who is going to read while we shop.
Nut job then comes and starts screaming at Jaffa...wrong thing to do mate...I'm not scared of too many people but Jaffa will kill you.
So we shop and then Ren texts me that Dickwad has come back and tried to scratch our car, not knowing she was in it, well Ren is a chip off the old Jaffa  block and she jumps out and gives him both barrells ha ha he ran...what a Wally!

You are going to shoot someone at close range for stealing your parking spot?  ::) I think you have problems...please tell me why you think its acceptable to go armed while shopping? Planning on blowing away the soccer mom for backing into your car in the lot? Very scary....

I hear that kind of excuse all the time but its flawed as the chances of it happening to you are very very small (unless you live in a particular rough part of the US). In Europe no one carries a gun and there is no epidemic of crackheads robbing stores. In general people feel pretty safe in their everyday lives.  If you feel the need to carry a weapon all the time then in my opinion you are paranoid. Not the way I chose to live. Each to their own.

Discharge a gun and you can kill someone. Thats it. No second chance. You took someones life. I hope you made the right choice....

Look at Hush in this case...he talked the guy down. Even if the offender came back to be a dickhead he was taken care of using non-lethal means. Whats the alternative? You pull a gun on him? And then what? Are you going to hope he backs down or are you going to shoot him dead? Try explaining that to the nice officer who is arresting you..."but he took my parking spot"  ::)

Pulling a gun on someone over a parking space is certainly inappropriate.  There are many many people who carry firearms regularly, who do not engage in such behavior.

Having a weapon does not make one a raving lunatic who goes around looking for excuses to use it, no matter what the media says.

Two shots actually hit the car.  I do not know about you but I choose not to be a victim of some random nut case.  No i do not get road rage or want to shoot people at random but i am pretty pissed at everyone that voted for slobbering Barney Frank.  As a federal law enforcement officer i carry my fire arm to protect you not me.

The proliferation of the gun toting public is the main reason you have these kind of violent offences. Here in Canada you don’t hear about nut cases pulling guns and threatening the general public. Period!

Parking lot rage! Mt mom is 76 and very fussy about her cars. A few years back she parked her 65 Mustang in as remote a spot as possible while she went to the ATM. She watched a woman pull right up next to her car in an almost empty blot and THROW her door open, smacking mom's Mustang! It hit so hard it bounced back and closed again. Mom went over and cussed her like a dog until the woman drove off. Mom watched her park, drove over, got out and kicked the Hell out of the woman's car. The bank called her at home to let her know that the woman had reported a "young blonde" had vandalized her car. Mom dyed her hair dark and parked the Mustang for a month. Don't mess with old people!

I haven't and will not ever take a life without cause. But if its between you dying or being a legitimate threat to me or my family... You''re a dead man. Obviously I am not advocating blowing someone away over a parking spot. Or because they cut you off on the highway. But if there is a real danger to you and yours, wouldn't you want to be armed? Is that really paranoia or preparedness?

And to take offense an a FEDERAL officer saying he keeps his gun to keep you safe is idiotic. Its his job. And I, for one, thank him for it.

I dont think you read my original response correctly. I was not offended in any way. The OP was stating that he carried his gun for my protection rather than his.

"As a federal law enforcement officer i carry my fire arm to protect you not me."

I called BS as he is carrying it to protect himself should he come across anyone who is going to shoot at him. I would hope he would not discharge it unless fired upon i.e. not to shoot an unarmed perp as has happened so often in law enforecement (just look at the record of the NYPD or LAPD). I am sure we can agree on that. If I was being held at gunpoint do you think the OP would take out the perp? No I dont either. He is not claiming to be a marksman. Therefore he is carrying a gun to protect himself in order to carry out his chosen job. His choice of work not mine.

Some states are easier than others but on the whole, getting a rifle or shotgun(much more dangerous in my opinion then a pistol) is pretty easy. And while yes, there are some crazies, most people are legitimate and will use a gun for defense.

I think this thread has gotten pretty derailed though.

Seems I've heard that there is now legislation in England (pending perhaps?) to outlaw knives that have a sharp point like steak knives because they are so dangerous you could fall on one and get hurt? I read quite a while back that Australia was in the process of outlawing knives over a certain length because people who enjoy fighting with each other were taking to the streets playing "Highlander".  We can go the other way and say that those countries that do have "anti-gun" legislation are full of people who are too willing to let the government control their lives and rely too heavily on the government to provide "protection"... Doesn't make sense to me that because a few people are fkups, those who aren't should be prohibited from possessing anything that they don't use improperly. Guns have been a fact of life in the US since the beginning, "banning" them will not get rid of them but will bring us closer to the "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" state. There are sufficient incidences of travellers and campers and such being robbed and otherwise attacked that I will always carry a gun when I go in the woods or on a road trip. Not just for crazies, but there are rabid animals out there too...AND fwiw..I know there are folks in those "Gun Banned" countries, including many  right here on the list, that would happily own handguns and not misuse them if they were allowed (wouldn't surprise me to find out a few of them may have one tucked away somewhere, few thinking people rely on legislation for protection)...guns and gun ownership are not the problem, as evidenced by the original post...

That's a bit of a straw man argument.  Most of those in prison aren't there because of their use of legally obtained firearms.

We don't carry guns in NZ, I wouldn't be allowed one anyway as there are soooo many people I couldn't resist terminating. ;D
So we get trained to use our mouths and our wits, has worked so far for me on the street and at work.
My son is a Police Officer and has access to firearms pretty much on demand but he doesn't want to carry one full time, a few years ago the Police began recruiting 50 kilogram little blonde dollies who where to become the "face" of NZ Policing....how long would Barbie hang onto her glock when fronted by a 120 kilogram gang member...not long we suspect.
We never had firearms in our house, I hate the damn things (but admit their neccessity in circumstances) so to see him carrying an M4 on the street scares the #$%* outa me.
But makes me no less proud of the job he does. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

This will forever be a circular argument with no resolution possible. We have the Second Amendment which has been upheld. This is unique in the World. The 50 States can enact their own regulations up to a point, and again, we have 50 States with a high degree of autonomy in this area.

The number of weapons sold over the years and still existing is unknown, and is thought to exceed to total population. There were no paperwork requirements for decades, so it would be impossible to track down every rifle, shotgun and handgun sold and resold in the past 75 years or more with no paper trail and try to register it.

The Genie is out of the bottle in the US and it will not go back in. We can only manage the situation as best we can and stop arguing about it.

This is truly an American centric discussion on the merits of various firearms. Any comparison to the UK, Canada, or anywhere else is not possible. The private ownership of firearms as it evolved in the US is entirely different.
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?
