DDM hi/lo HID kit... did they screw up or am I an idiot?
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:11:01 AM »
Hey everyone. Just got my DDM HID kit in the mail yesterday. Went to piece it together and realized that the harness they gave me seems to have a few extra connectors and plugs in odd places in general. I contacted their crummy support system and they quickly said I had the right harness, but it doesn't seem to match up.

Does anyone have this kit, and can tell me if you simply don't use 3 of the connectors?

Here's the kit: http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Single-HiLo-Motorcycle-HID-Kit

This seems fine:

But then I have two large 9006-style connectors on the harness, one of which plugs into the previous photo, but then another that goes nowhere.

Thanks for any opinions.

The harness needs to be wired in to allow your bulb to actuate and change beam pattern when your hi-beam switch is activated.
lemme look on their site to find the installation tutorial.

Here you go... download the .pdf  Its for a car, but the function is the same.

They talk about the harness being able to connect to 2 drivers. That's what the second set of connections is for. I just installed my kit from them yesterday. It came with no instructions. I ended up using the shorter harness and cutting the longer one off leaving just enough to
Put heat shrink and tape on the individual conductors. I mounted the relay just ahead of the coils under the tank , put the driver up under the upper triple clamp and put the transformer ( last box before the bulb ) in the headlight shell. In retrospect I should have used the longer leads as I ended up extending the shorter ones by about 4". I ran 2 14 gauge wires from the battery. I took a black from the battery neg to the headlight shell and red from the top of the starter solenoid on the battery side. I put an in line blade type fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse on the red behind the left side cover. I tapped into the red to power an ignition coil relay under the tank to save my kill switch from the increased load from Dyna 3 ohm coils and then took the red up to the headlight shell to power the lights. Everything works !
Hope this helps

Thanks, yeah I figured that, but I was just confused as to why I had double connectors.

Yes, this is exactly what I needed to know. I just wanted to make sure that those extra plugs weren't needed before I went chopping this thing up. That info helps a ton. Thanks!

Hey wrenchmuch I'm soon going to have mine to try and connect and your method seems great. Only problem is I'm pretty useless with electrical problems.  I get how u wired the negative and put an in line blade fuse holder to positive but lost me from there. Any chance you get explain it to a child... and if you have pretty pictures that would help :D
Thanks
