I can't believe you guys missed this one:  "I can get more than that parting it out"

If you have ever parted a bike out completely you know that it is way more work than some crack head kid is up to doing.  He knows that, and you know that.  Why they still feel possessed to say it is beyond me.

"Bike was my son's, he bought and started fiddling with it.  I never thought he'd get that thing running, and the next day he was zipping around the neighborhood!"

Actual words he said over the phone.  (I was an idiot and not only bought the bike without seeing it in person, but bought it while deployed in Iraq).

Quotes from the seller's convo with me on ebay:

"I went by the title it reads 21000 and I don't know why. So I added a little more to make it 23000. My son only ran it for a summer then went into the army. The odometer clearly reads 50000+ I did not know it had [an odometer]."

^^^^The title DOES say 21,000 even, but this is part of why I wasn't terribly hesitant to tear my engine down.  Who knows what's right.  :-\

After I asked if he tried the petcock/checked the kill switch when he said he cant start it:

"I did not do any of those things. I know the brakes work when you push it my son drove it all over the place so I would think they are ok and you just get the old gas out and clean up the carbs and find out why there is no elec. at the coils that thing would start right up."

Boy did I learn something on my last tour.   ::)
"Whatever it is, I swear I didn't do it!"

"MUST SELL THIS WEEKEND, 1977 cb550, am being evicted from my apartment have no place to store it, needs new starter, front brake hose, 38k miles, custom black paint, $3000 LOW BALLERS WILL BE IGNORED."

The best is when their "sell by" date is two weeks ago and you call and it's still available. Then they get PO'd when you make them a reasonable offer.

Seller had a Harley on Craigs ALL Summer, "hurry, won't last long at this price, 20K invested, asking $10,500." Man, if a bike doesn't sell in a week or two, you have to ask yourself if it is priced right. I offered him $4200 and he told me where to put my offer.  He still has it and it is worth less than 5K.

Sadly for those guys who mortgaged their homes to build $30-$50K pro-street 127 cubic inch billet barges, that's what's happening all over the market.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Just found this one in a eBay auction...(and it sounds like the guy owns a motorcycle shop! :o)

"The only thing that has been repaited on this bike was the Exhaust System and Skid-plate, everthing else is still Factory Finish and Parts, the Tires have never been changed or the Oil in it, with only  389  original miles why bother changeing the Oil"

Read the Q & A, very entertaining... ;D

"I bought it from a guy who quit riding it in the middle of last summer"

Let's see, bald rear tire, original ribbed front tire, no spark plugs, gummed up carbs, no seat foam, dry master cylinder...

I saw one on CL recently that said, "Ran great in 1978-should just need a tune up."  That gave me a little chuckle.

Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I go to look at a bike to buy for my dad. The owner has it parked in the grass... to hide the fact that there was an oil stream pouring out of a hole in the case.

Me: Is it leaking oil?

Them: No

Me: Look right there (pointing)

Them: Oh!? I never noticed that.
