Finally licensed and legal
« on: March 15, 2006, 06:24:07 PM »
After about 8 months and much work. It's licensed and legal.
It's been fun and all the basics are complete. I've got far more into it than it can ever be resold for.
Now what will I do with all my time?
Thats easy... I'm selling my 1965 Honda Super 90 tomorrow. I have a lead on a 1973 Honda 750 for $400.00

Looks good.......I just got mine legal and road ready last Saturday.

One question, What kind of tires are you running? I was looking at some at a local shop that the owner said $150 mounted...ready to ride. Turns out they are the same as on my bike now.... CS Hi Max.  I finally put 2 & 2 together and found out that CS stands for Chen Siengs(sp?)    I think I'll be looking for something else.  I like the tread pattern of yours.

Bodain, you and KCs have a pair of mighty fine examples of Honda's SOHCs. Enjoyed the photo
of Bodain's 550 and the previous photos of KCs' 750. Actually, like others, I always like to see the photos whether it's the finished bike or one in progress. It helps me to get the incentive to get after mine. Way to go guys! Later on, Bill ;)

cool. - that's the closest i've ever been to a 550!  ;D

is that a stock config for the carbs/air cleaner? where IS the airbox? the bike looks...shorter than the 750 frame...are those pods i see underneath the oil tank?

Air box looks to be ditched in favor of individual air cleaner pods.

Also, the 550's don't have external oil tanks. All the oil is in the pan. Underneath that cover is the battery.

I honestly don't know what the tires are. Those were on it when I bought it. They say Challenger. You will also note the Harley rim laced up on the Honda hub.

I've had those carbs on and off so many times. The stock airbox just had to go. Naturally we had a jetting problem.
I drilled out the mains. That revealed excellent wide open throttle response. It was still quit flat midrange. Bumped the needle up up notch.
That helped. It's still a bit slow off idle. ( Too bad you can drill those pilot jets<Grin>)  I think the stocks are 38 ... I need to purchase some
40's or so..

...nice seat!!!

There is a story behind that seat. What I did was toss all the original form. It was real nasty! Went to the Army/ Navy store and purchase 2" thick form.. I lay it down and use 3M spray glue to stack the two inch pieces. Once I get enough layers. I now take
a very course grit sanding disk on a drill and start sculpting. I had many incarnations prior to getting to this seat. The upolstery guy really did a great job from my brief description of what I wanted.

:o That is one of the best looking CB's I have seen in a long time ! :o
The seat looks perfect with the rest of the bike.
Big fan of the 16'' HD wheel mod - gives a nice "fatty" look to the rear.

Awesome bike - Great job !

I do like the tail light. Was thinking of doing the same with mine but was worried about the clearance between it and the tire. So I stuck mine off to the side.

Not a big fan of the stock taillight as a whole, but your mounting is pretty killer...

This bike is just another reason that I'm taking a long hard look at other bikes on this site before
I get make up my mind on how I'm going to build mine. Bodain's 550 is awesome and he's really
paid attention to detail. I'm looking at some of the features from his bike, along with paulages',
and several others that I can't seem to think of the names at this time. The guys whose ideas
that I end up using will definitely get the credit due them. I just hope that, when it's all said and
done, my bike will be worthy of seen by you guys. Later on, Bill

   Hey Noel,
I'm sure there are others who offer the headlight brackets but, JC Whitney has them for
sure and they aren't too badly priced either. Check it out. Later on, Bill :) ;)

Bodain,
We need some more details like what kind of exhaust is that? Did you do any trimming on the frame? What is the actual name of that Red Paint, that color is something else. That is quite a story behind that seat and it turned out great. The way you put the tail light under the tailend of that seat
is cool. I know there are more questions but, I can't think of them right now. Any detail would be appreciated though. You have one bike to be proud of. Keep up the good work. Later on, Bill :) ;)

The exhaust is what was on the bike when I bought it. It was rusted chrome. I did some sanding and painted it black. The exhaust doesn't really have any markings. I think it's a MAC.

The red paint is actually going. Well it was going...  Another story......

Ok. I licensed this thing about about two weeks ago. I've been riding it a good deal. Anyone who has a clue how old it is wants to talk about it.
Several guys have expressed interest in buying it. It really wasn't for sale. I didn't want to sell it. The fact is I have about $2200.00 in it. Thats more than it's actually worth.  I believe I have a serious buyer. I can recover all my money in it. I'm more willing to sell it since Saturday I bought a 1975 CB750 for $400.00. The gas tank is totally gummed up. There are no moving parts in the carbs. I'm in hog heavan.
