I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with Z1's replacement seat covers. I bought this one http://z1parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=263 , put it away, got the pan and foam ready, took out to a pro to put it on and it's an inch too short according to the installer. Maybe I'm missing something here so I sent them an email as per their website on Tuesday and a bump today and still haven't heard back from them. I don't think it was smart ass email, here it is:
Hi!
Last May 20'th I bought a Honda CB750 K0 Sandcast seat cover, item number 160434535108, and carefully put it away to be used when the seat pan was ready for it. Well, I recently took it to a professional upholsterer specializing in motorcycle seats because I wanted to be as good looking as the rest of my K0 is going to be and he has found in comparing your seat cover to the original I removed from the seat :

"Hi Cliff, your new replacement seat cover is too small to your Honda seat. It is a full inch short. It appears that the last pleat line (at the rear of the cover) should be at least an inch towards the front. That would put that pleat line in position to be down in the "bite" where it should be. The extra inch  in length should be at the rear, between the last pleat line and the rear piping."

In short, it doesn't fit the seat pan and original foam. Your note that was included with the cover says to contact you if I have any questions. My question is do you have any covers that will fit the K0 seat better?  Can you do anything for me?

Maybe I'm just impatient.

I sent an E-mail to a supplier this AM and have resolved my question already so it can be done.

Don R, are you Z1? Did you mean that a cover an inch longer as described by my installer can be had?
Thanks,
Cliff.

So Z1 says I do have a sandcast K0 seatcover from them. I decided to compare the cover to the original one of my K0. I probably should have done this the moment I received it. Here's some pics so you can judge for yourselves. The new cover is nice just a little short. I've emailed these to Z1 to see if he can do anything for me. I'll report back when I hear from him.
Cheers,
Cliff.

No reply yet. This may have to go to the "Vendors Reviews" section. I have a bit more patience left.

Hi Cliff, I realize you took it to a professional, but often these suckers come seemingly too small. The price would definitely make me cautious. The cover I received from Yamiya was a real struggle. I was stretching and tugging and cursing the whole way. Once I got it in place it looked super. Personally if I was restoring a Sandcast I'd get the top of the line Yamiya cover. Comes with a real belt and hardware replacements.

The add says "100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEED", perhaps it can be exchanged or returned.

Hi Simpson! Yes, I was looking at the Yamiya one and it's proably the best one. The Z1 cover is definitely too short by an inch or so. There's no way it can be tugged into place and have it lay so the ducktail shows in my opinion. I think sending it back will be the next step if I can't get a good one from them. We're looking at visiting my son in Kyoto next year and Yamiya is not too far from there. My son picked up some stuff from them earlier this year and brought it with him when he came home this summer. A trip to Nagoya must be made if we get to Japan.  Z1 is not returning my emails yet. ???

Mark, is that the fellow in Lethbridge, Alberta?  This posting or one like it ? http://cgi.ebay.ca/CB750-seat-cover-Honda-CB750K-CB-750-K-Duck-tail-/160360307866?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2556381c9a
His seat covers are sewn through on the top and not heat bonded like the original seats. Please don't ask how I know this.  :-[
I would just like a reply from Z1 even if it's sorry we can't help you or send it back for a refund.
yes, I am impatient.

Don't rememeber the seller but yes it is sewn, I was I little concerned about water getting in the seat foam but not problems yet. Matching the stock one was not really a concern as mine is just a daily rider.

I understand, the lack of  communication  is very frustrating.

So, the end of the story is this: Z1 says all his covers for the K0 are the same size so they will not fit the seat I have. He's asked me to send it back to him which I will. It's a bit frustrating because I owe the installer $75 for his work so far however Z1 is doing the right thing and is a good guy then.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Seems a little steep for an incomplete cover install. If that is just labor on a cover install, it seems a little high for a completed job, it only took me an hour from taking the seat off to reinstalling the seat and I had never done this before.

I asked Yamiya to measure the length of their seat covers and they said about 65 cms. My original one is about the same so it should fit much better. Now the save the almost $300 for it from them. However I did find these guys http://cgi.ebay.ca/HONDA-CB750-CB750K0-SEAT-COVER-HCVE-/180324789162?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item29fc31ebaa but I think I have to go with the best. The seat helps make the bike what it is and is a focal point of a K0. Lesson learned I guess. Thanks Simpson for help keeping me on track.

Hi Cliff,
Glad everything worked out OK, with Z1 anyway.  I bought a complete seat from Yamiya.  Plenty spendy but super quality and looks fantastic.  You're right that its too big an item not to be perfect.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Cliff,
If you are interested in my original KO seat cover, belt and foam, PM me.
Its in great shape considering it's 40 years old.

Right now it just sleeps in the garage in the Yamiya box.

I did the full Yamiya foam, hardware and cover.
Might be still paying for it. :D
