Getting a title for a 1975 cb750f?????
« on: October 28, 2010, 05:16:14 PM »
I have an opportuity to purchase a 1975 cb750f with 7,000 miles all original bike.  The problem is the owner is deciesed and the friend that he gave the bike to didn't get the title with it.  He is still close to the deciesed owners family and says he could get a death cerificate.  My question is what else would I need to get a new title, or am I fighting a losing battle??????

the family has to fill out a bill of sale at the least, and you need to make sure your state will let you title a moto that doesnt have a title.   In indiana it pretty much impossible to get one, i had to send a bill of sale up to michigan and have a friend title it and send it back.

just make sure you at least get a bill of sale signed by a family member of the deceased.

imo

Your friend might ask the fam to go to the DMV with a death cert and get a duplicate title.

Thank you.  It would've been a new york state title. But I live in Pa. Does that make matters worse?

I live in PA also and it is almost impossbile to get a title transferred to our state unless it is signed and notarized.  I had a signed Texas title but I could not get a title because the signature was not notarized. . If someone from the estate has power of attorney, they can sign the title and get it notarized in NY.  At least I think that will work.  Good luck, Larry

As I understand it, US States that require titles as proof of ownership will honor titles from other states. (please correct me if you know of any exceptions)

(Notarizing every signed document is always a good idea.)

And states that do not require a title document as proof of ownership will simply hand an out of state title back to you if they don't need it to proceed.

It's all very different from state to state, whats your location?  It'd really help us give a more specific answer. (and maybe even point you towards the correct forms and requirements for your state)

I am about to start this process myself. i live in NJ and it was last titled in NJ, but that was 20 years ago. My bike was an abandoned bike, it is a real pain and really confusing. Hopefully it will be done by spring. fron what I can understand you need a bill of sale, you need to put an add in the paper with the VIn to give someone a chance to show proof of ownership and about a dozen other items. Big pain, but new what I was getting into when I got it.
