Update:   been out with a disc prob in my neck. I have the tank and side covers done.  not correct colors but will look nice.  Got all three of my calipers un stuck finally so ill be fixing up the best one and installing it this week after i get my new pads and seal.  Should be on the road in about 2 weeks or so. Ill have pics up here in about the same. 

my to do list: (installs)
-install petcock
-decals/stripes/stickers (frame, tank, etc)   (any reference where all the stickers go???)
-badges/emblems
-front brake system
-speedo and tach plates
-hook up front headlight

yeah now i have 3 good calipers for my 750.  Im currently awaiting results from an MRI on my neck. So we'll see.

im feeling better with the manual massage therapy tho.

UPDATE:  very close to getting on the road.   Long story short i had to repaint my FrankenSide covers and my tank.   The painter i used was a total moron. Didnt even get close to the color i wanted and didnt do a very good job.   So im trying my hand at it.

These are the first coat, ive yet to wet sand and prob do one more coat,  then wet sand and clear coat with the spraymax 2000.   This is my first time painting something this big and actually trying to do a nice job.   Im using Duplicolor "Metal Specs"  Burnt Copper.    It looks very much like the Sunrise Orange.

Tank is still wet in these pics






This is what the color look like dry, but still have to clear coat it.

Reminds me a little of the coppertone color that Schwinn used on the stingray bikes back in the 1960's.

that looks pretty good in the pics, I don't know how many coats you have on it at that point but if you plan on clearing all you need is it colored. You really want as little build as possible in the colors stage.

If there is a lot of metallic in the pant and there is not a lot of orange peal, there don't appear to be in the pics, I would not sand between color and clear.

if you sand on metallic paint and happen to go through from one layer of paint to the next it will often leave rings showing the layers, so if you wet sand I would plan on a light coat of color before you clear coat.

and... if you are clear coating, a somewhat "dry" coat will show better after its cleared, the color coat don't have  to look "wet" before its cleared to look good after its cleared

i almost follow what your saying.    Right now it has one coat of color.   i was going to do a light wet sand and one more color.

So your saying after my last color coat ,  no need to wet sand before the clear?   
How long should i wait before i clear coat??

if you have good coverage, wet sand with finishing with 1000 grit, add 1 or 2 light coats of even color, even is important with metallics, then clear.

if your are using a matching brand and type of paint, clear follow directions on the wait time. 

The longer you wait the less the chance you will get a reaction. If you clear and paint the same day, go easy on the first coat of clear, the faster it drys the less chance it will raise or get a lot of dirt in it. Let the first light coat flash off then go head and apply a couple more coats allowing 20-30 between coats.

make sure the tank and side covers are warm when you paint/clear them, especially on the clear

Lil idea of what it will look like with the newer paint.  Eventually ill get a stock color, but in the sunlight this one is really close to the sunrise orange.  Still have to clear, decal and install the headlight.

New pics with 3 coats of spraymax 2000 clear. I did an ok job, but next time will be better. I need a new headlight bracket.  waiting on my stripes to be done at the local sign shop that way ill have extras already scanned.  Im painting my tank badges tonight.  She's all connected up and running great, ill get a vid of it running in a day or two.

not really sure to be honest.  Never really looked at it, just cleaned it up and threw it back on.  sounds awesome tho.

thanks all.  Finally got the stripes on.  Really didnt know what i was doing but oh well.  I think they look good.  Printer in town , friend of a friend , made them for me and i got 4 sets for under $20.  The tank badges didnt come out how i wanted them to, i had to paint them myself and wasnt too easy.   I think the background needs to be black or i should of used black paint.  Only thing left now is the Tach and Speedo. Im still waiting for the face plates.  This thing rides and runs great.  I didnt rebuild the engine hence the engine noise youll hear in the video at the bottom.   THANKS A TON!! to all those whose knowledge i drew from to rebuild this bike, no way i could of done it with out the help of this site and its members!!!

thanks man,  was my first almost full restore.   I messed up on the badges forgot to do the back ground in black before i painted the white.  Oh well.   its a great daily rider and now with gas prices going up.  i might be riding it more and more however im also looking for a later model that gets great mileage as well.

Regardless of the badges it looks great.  Wondering if you could add some insight.  Did you have to remove the badges before you repainted it, if so how'd you take them off.  Also, did you rattle can spray the whole thing? Just wondering cause Im gonna have to repaint mine, maybe next winter though. Oh and what did you use to remove the gas cap and put it back on, any special tools for the pin?

The tank already had the badges off. So i didnt have to remove them.

Yes i rattle canned the tank and sides.  Using Duplicolor "metal Specs" copper.  (use a silver base and youll get the orange color)  2 coats of color, 3 coats of clear coat (spray max 2000) wet sand in between to keep it as smooth as you can. That was my first paint job.

I removed the pins and bought some from Hondaman but the pins he gave me where not long enough for the latch part.  You can go to any thrifty supply or hardware store and fins some small bolts to re attach.

Nice work Tango.   Working on a low-buck semi-restore myself (75CB750K).    It's good to see one close to stock with all the cafe bikes running around
these days.     Amazing how good these 'ol-girls clean up.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
