dissasembling motor trouble

Hey guys im rebuilding my 73 750 motor and i cant figure out how to get the chain off the cam. I followed the books imstructions but its not working. I was wondering would it be worth while to cut the chain then replace it

Which book are you following?

Have you removed the cam chain tensioner holder, the cam sprocket mounting bolts, the rocker arm shafts and rockers? If you have, you should be able to remove the cam chain from the sprocket, and then slide the cam out.  Before sliding the cam out slide something through the chain such as a metal rod to keep it from falling into the opening in the head/cylinder.

I think the hardest part is to rotate the camshaft in order to remove the cam sprocket mounting bolts.

I have the cam sprocket losse off the cam and the rocker arms are losse as well. It seems that the cam chain is lose but not enough to slip off the sprocket. The book i have is white cover and red lettering with a guy ridding a honda bike. Im not sure what its called but it came with the bike

Again, make sure you remove the cam chain tensioner.

Chain tensioner is out. Still no luck

remove the cam sprocket bolts and wiggle it about a lot,itll come off,replacing it is harder,with the timing and all.

Definately replace the chain if you're doing a rebuild.
It will come off with some patience.
