Opinions please
« on: November 27, 2010, 06:38:49 AM »
My wife is always wanting to buy me one of these for Christmas or my birthday. It looks like it would be ultra comfortable and practical but I'm not sure if the folks here in Oklahoma would understand. I like the Survival model. The fact that it holds 20 beers is a great selling point! While you're there, check out the mockumentaries.

That's good to know. I've been thinking it would be great for around the house or in the backyard. Apparently I could also wear it in Texas on Halloween.

I have a couple friends that have them and think they're great. Didn't know about the 20 beers thing, I'll ask next time I see them. Don't think they'd be much for winter wear tho....some serious shrinkage to think about......and I sure would hate to step into a waist deep snowdrift    ;D

I think the key question is not whether you'd wear one or not, but what you'd wear underneath.

I saw these in Seattle while visiting with my wife and think they're great if you like wearing skirts.

I would think they would make scratching and strategic adjustments a breeze and on the warmest of days permit a breeze as well.  How could that be bad?

I think once you wore one of these you could never go back to traditional "pants with crotches". In answer to someone's question, I assume you go commando when wearing one of these. My wife thinks they look ultra manly. The only problem I have is that I would be the only one wearing one here in Oklahoma City and I don't think I'd be able to maintain a low profile walking around town. I generally don't care what people think but for some reason I'm uneasy about wearing one of these.

I have a guy friend who loves them and refuses to wear pants if he can wear his utilikilts.  He would look like a total stud in them if it weren't for... y'know... his face. ::) His gf loves him in them, though, and they appreciate the design (not to go into details here.)  He goes 'regimental' aka 'traditional'
:D

They appear to be very popular here in the PNW, but then again, they were developed here.

Would I wear them in OK?  Only in 'liberal' parts of town.  Lots of people might not understand the comfort of undercarriage A/C.

I have gotten some surprising responses here. First of all I personally never thought they looked "gay" so to speak. As a matter of fact I think they look perfectly manly. The question I had in my mind was what people in general would think and you guys have come through in spades.
It appears to me that if I am in Scotland going down to the pub for a bit of haggus and a pint, then I can wear this thing all I want and nobody would notice. Apparently, outside of that, people might be curious as to what a goofy looking Oklahoma white boy like me is doing in a skirt.

Well, Goof, What I think it boils down to is this: Some people are just so likely to look 'gay' they need to consciously avoid wearing anything they suspect may make them look moreso, or just more conspicuously so.  Your average guy looks just fine wearing it as long as he's not surrounded by a bunch of bubbas who are suffering from the above affliction.

I really don't think "gay" enters into my line of thought. I am a 5'-7" 225lb bricklayer that sidelines as a gymnastics coach. I spend a good deal of time in either pink or purple attire working with 1/2 size girls ranging from 6-18 years old. and more than a few gay co-workers.

It really boils down to how secure you are and if you mind being singled out. If he did not mind being singled out he would have posted a pic of him self wearing it. not asking what we thought. ;)

It's not that I'm determined to buy one of these.  I just thought it would be interesting to see what people thought. Actually, if I could buy one for $30 or so, I'd probably buy it just for laughs. These are obviously very well made but the $200-$300 price rules it out for me. I can buy a lot of beer and bike parts for that kind of money. I will choose that over wearing a skirt every time.
