Joey I can tell you the 550 frame width at the swingarm pivot is VERY close to the stock width of a late 90s Honda CBR 600 (F3 I believe) arm.   And the rear wheel that goes with the same swingarm tucks in nicely.   Frame would probably need a little modification though.   Yours look like a pair of later CBR wheels, albeit widened a bit.

I am also thinking about building a nice braced tube one.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Brothers I think I am going to lower the bike a couple inches and build the front end of the frame with close to stock rake as I like the look of a close front wheel and this bike will already look roomy up front without having the exhaust up there!

I have always thought the rear wheel was too far forward on these bikes so I will definately be running a longer swingarm than stock.

Here is a photo of the front end I am using, it is a KYB 43mm setup.

In this photo the rim is sitting in the stock location and you can see how much clearance there is for the carburetor.

Try dropping the triple trees 3 or 4 inches.. high pipe bikes need far less clearance.., I cut the stand mount and relocate it..

I think a more angled up manifold with 2 down draft carbs would look cool as well, with the stacks pointing straight up.... ;D

brilliantly entertaining thread ,started off my sunday in an excellent way .thank you brother joey .

incedentally i dont get any problems with this underseat pipe ,it is turboed ,which means a lot of heat is taken out by the turbo , but it is .5mm inconel formula 1 piping ,so it conducts a lot of heat through its walls .have a look at the vid youll see how close it is ;;

i think you'll be fine ,you could allways make a polished engraved heat shield for it ;)

robert

Today we used the tank from my dads 550 and finished setting everything up to see what the bike would look like and to get measurements so I can start building the frame.

The engine and tank are going to be a 1 1/2 inches higher than what they are in this photo.

Very promising.  I would like to see that swingarm shortened by 3-4", though.

So that the swingarm pivot works with that 17" wheel and a level swinger?  That will look nice.

+1.  Looks great, but very long.  If that's what you're going for that's cool, but I envision more "racer" than "bobber", and the stretch is definitely leaning toward bobber.  Either way though....AWESOME!

Brother Kanticoy I was originally going to build a cafe style bike but have made the final decision to go with more of a pro street look.

With the 190 that could be quite cool.

Moving the arm ahead till pivot lines up to frame hole will shorten it 2.5 or 3 inches..

If you shorten the arm, with any welding, you should re heat-treat it.. a lot of hassle..

Lokks good I like the streetracer look..

Now that I have made a final decision on the rims and suspension I can start building the frame so I bought the tubing and a new tubing bender today.

I have one we got several years ago just like that. it's not the easest thing to bend pipe with, but if you tinker with it and take it slow you can bend pipe with it.

I don't know what the smallest manderal you got or what size pipe you are working with. The best trick I can tell you easaly is to use the next size smaller manderal than the pipe you are bending, that is unless the have adjusted the sizing since I got mine.

Yep.  Joey, if you shim the tubing with sheet metal in the dies with that bender they will make a much better "kink-less" bend.  Those dies weren't designed to compensate for the bends (i.e. thinning toward the ends of the die).  I used one for years and then my wife bought me a JD squared model 32 for christmas.  I am a lucky man!  :D

Those look like pipe or conduit dies, not the sizes of the frame tubes..

They are, that's why they need to be shimmed.
