CB400f clutch retaining nut removal - center spin
« on: November 26, 2010, 01:53:06 PM »
So I have the tool to remove the clutch retaining nut on my cb400f...

Question: When I try to remove the nut, the inner center of the clutch turns as I try to remove the nut.  Does anyone have a good way to hold the center in place so I'll be able to remove the nut?

Thanks for any help out there!

There was a special holding tool as I remember but if you use an air gun the nut should spin off.  I've held the inner hub with a gloved hand while using the air gun.  Larry

If you have the official Honda T-handle tool you don't have the option of using an impact wrench.
You can fake it with a hammer though, tapping one arm of the tee. Once the nut breaks free it spins off easily. If you can get someone to hold the clutch with gloves while you do this it will be a lot easier. You may be able to wrap a hold-down strap around the centre spline and pass it through the basket fingers to tie off on something solid?
Anyway I've used the T wrench a lot and I don't remember any big trouble getting the nut free (or tight).

I am fortunate to have an old special tool that fits an impact.  If not available, Bodi's way should work well.  Larry
