other than the benji parts... i'm still lost...

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/mcy/2081441345.html

Im selling my 1974 Honda cb550 cafe racer. The bike does not currently run. All the fuel lines and wireing harness need to be ran. I bought this bike about 3 years ago and I have never ran the bike. The kick start moves freely. The tank, seat pan, head light bucket, battery relocater and fork covers are aftermarket from Benjies Cafe Racer (benjiescaferacer.com). The tank and headlight bucket are fiberglass and the seat pan is steel. All have been painted in dark emerald matallic green base coat/clear coat. The inside of the tank has been sealed. I bought a new ignition switch/keys, and a new chain. I have all the old parts I took off the bike including the old wire harness, brake and cluch levers, exhaust, etc. The seat has been covered in brown leather. I have too many projects and one of them needs to go. Hate to get rid of it when its so close to being done!

Wow $3500 for a bike that doesn't run, he'll have people knocking down his door for that one. ;D

The seller has the right to ask anything he wants.  A buyer can pay it, negotiate or pass it up altogether.   Maybe there is more to the story.....

Suppose the seller's significant other is saying "you have too many projects and one of them needs to go!".  Seller says "OK Dear, I'll put it up on Craigslist".

Hmm..... no offers?   Seller says..."Dear, I guess I'll have to keep it".

Nice bike -- is that an old Cord in the background?

Looks like a good start, and since you have all the old bits
the new owner can either revert to stock or sell off the stock parts to defray
the acquisition cost.
If you're pretty flexible on the price (and your local economy is not too bad)
and you can wait for a while you might find a buyer.  Flexible on the price is key.
Would really help if  you could show it's running, why not take a week and do the electrics and fuel lines?
There's nothing like the sound of a hot 550 cafe bike that looks cool to get a buyer
willing to part with cash.

I know people who have used that trick before and been very successful. I'm sure he has more than $3500 into it to get it to where it is now. Hotrods and custom bikes are not very good investments unless they have some collectability. Even then it's hard to find somebody that wants to buy somebody else' project. I agree sellers have the right to ask what ever they want, I just see some humor in their asking price sometimes. ;)

I think if you take a closer look you'll pick it for either a '49 Pontiac or Chevy, could be a '48, they had a little more rounded transition from roof to trunk and those delineated rear wheel wells too.   Anyway that'd be my guess on the background car.  By the way, we had one of those when I was a kid.

Background car appears to be a 1951 Pontiac 2-door fastback ("Streamliner").

I can remember getting 2K for one of my 750s, not running.. back in the 80s.. in fact it had no motor or carbs in it, and was sold without them.

I think that about half of the 3500 was probably for the benji's stuff, so I hope who ever buys it doesn't drop it, once the bondo falls out there'll be nothing left! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
