What am I missing here?
« on: March 16, 2006, 09:20:45 PM »
OK,  I go to David Silver here...

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/cgi-bin/dss2-cgi/ProdSel.pl

and the price for the downpipe and silencer is 89 pounds. Assuming four
of them... 89 times 4 is 356 pounds.  356 pounds times 1.76 dollars to the
pound equals 626 bucks.  That seems much cheaper then they are selling
for on ebay here.  ??? Most of the other parts seem cheaper then they are
here....even with postage.

What am I missing?

yes... dss is very reasonable.  i've often thought i was reading things wrong too.  i'd say scoop em up while they're "cheap"!  although, i've never even thought about paying over 600 for a system but, to each his own.

TT... he did say with postage.  are there charges that don't show up until after the purchase is finalized?

So he did. Sorry.  But, US customs will have an import duty from the UK, I think.  They send you a bill sometime after they release the parts.

Cheers,

In Spain they don't release the parts until you pay the duties. Actually, they send you the parcel with an invoice. The duties are calculated based on the declared value of the goods. Once a seller didn't fill out the CN22 form and I had to go to customs with an eBay printout to justify the value. Generally, they choose them at random, but go directly to the boxes of electronic equipment that generally are more expensive. In Spain, you don't have to pay import duties for goods under 50 euro.

In case the "Non-Poms" er, sorry, I mean "Non-Brits", don't know, "VAT" is "Value Added Tax", not the first part of a famous whisky label. For international buyers, "VAT" doesn't apply, but as has been mentioned above, some import duty may be applied when the pipes hit your shores.

The biggest problem I have is that DSS use those thieving dogs at UPS to ship large consignments like pipes, and those ass-wipes are are shipping terrorists once outside the US, one of the Aussie forum members recently contacted me to say he'd ordered a set of new pipes from DSS, but the shipping and import duty was total bull-#$%*, and I don't know if he actually went thru with it. So near, and yet, so far............... :-\
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
