Any Stockists of Bronze Swingarm Bushes for the 400/4
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:15:49 AM »
After finally finishing the engine (and thanks for the help through that!) - I am moving onto the chassis. The frame and swingarm have just been powdercoated and I would like to fit Bronze Swingarm bushes. However, despite reading numerous threads on here I cant find anyone in the UK that can either make me some up or sell them. Partsnmore in the US have them at $50 but they want $75 for postage to the UK which is a bit prohibitive :)

Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks

How big a hurry are you to get them?  I ask because I've sent items of similar size and weight to europe (things I've sold on e-bay) and it doesn't cost nearly that much to get stuff to you all, probably less than $10.  I also notice that that same set of bushings fits many models of Honda bike, including my own 550.  Shipping to my address is only $8  So if I were to buy a set it would cost me $58 to get them here and if I wanted to send it east for another $10 then the total cost of the set would be about $70 or a little less.  It would take some time, but to me it sounds do-able, if the expense doesn't bother you.

So if you want I'll buy a set and let you know when it arrives here.  Then you pay me (via Pay Pal) for what I've got in them plus the cost to ship them to you (I'll check with the Post Office and get an exact cost) and I'll drop them in the mail the next day.  They should take about a week to get to you.  Like I said, the shipping won't be all that much (Sent via US mail/Royal Post) and I don't mind filling out the customs form, there's nothing to it.  Besides. if you don't come through on your end I'll have a fresh set of bushings, which can't be a bad thing.

I'd be willing to do it, that's not a problem, but if there is anyone here who actually needs a set of bushings and wouldn't mind doing it for you they could do do the deal instead of me and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.  Anyway its up to you.

There's a local (Vancouver Island) company that does a ton of bronze, brass, cast iron and other pieces:

Smith Bros. Foundry & Machine Works Limited
632 Pembroke Street
Victoria BC, V8T 1H6
Phone #: 250-384-1625
Fax #: 250-384-0731
Toll free #: 877-900-5656
Email: smithbrosfoundry@shaw.ca

They supply a lot of the marine, navy, bike and auto markets here. They may not have one but they will make however many you want and they are ridiculously cheap.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Thats very kind of you and thanks very much for the offer. I'm going to give the composite ones a try for now but I may well take you up on your offer once I get the bike rolling.

Thanks again!

Yeah I think there is something wrong with the weights of the bushings on their site. When you view the site it said their  weight (I am working off the top of my head) it was something like 0.3 Lbs however when you add them to the basket, it adds them at 3.35lbs so I would imagine if I called them they would rectify it and lower the shipping. Anyway, have now placed an order for the composite original ones from silvers so I will see how those go otherwise i'll take Kong up on his kind offer.
Cheers

Oh and for the UK folks - I had emailed Phil Denton to get a price to see if he could make some of these up. Turns out to be quite cost prohibitive - He said that the raw materials would probably cost around £50-£60 so you'd be looking at around £100 for a pair made from scratch. Anyway its another option for you.

I see you already ordered, I got a set from someone in the Netherlands just looked at my messages and doesn't seem to be from the forum if I find out details I will post them for any future reference.
Yes Phil Denton does seem expensive, I priced up one his cam chain tensioner horseshoes :(

Check out Ebay.de - loads of Germans selling them on there. Got a set coming for my 650 for under £25.
