I simply wanted a realistic value on the bike to relay to the owner so she and her husband could make an educated sale.  I got some information regarding value early on and later learned that Imola is a race track in Italy.  Thanks guys!

You told the classic car find myth. I have heard the EXACT same story at least 20 times.
1- Old Lady.........what do they know about cars, right?
2- Car is either behind the house or covered in the garage, that way it explains why the neighbors have never seen the "prize" for decades.
3-Either her husband or son purchased the car and is now deceased.
4-The Old Lady has no idea of the value.
5- The myth ends with someone else managing to get the car, or you tell the old lady it's true value.
Problem, the car is NEVER subsequently cataloged, no publication etc. of this incredibly rare find is ever discovered. It is ALWAYS the storytellers dream car, even down to the paintcode. I have heard that story way too many times. You told the myth word for word, too much of a coincidence. I won't even ask for pictures.
I also "collect" cars, and people know what they have, even old ladies, believe me.

I just held a meeting with my employees, and asked them about the story. Yep, they have all heard this tale..............'Cuda with dealer stickers still in the window even.
I have another one for you guys. It always involves railcars, trucks, even tanks.
A guy gets pinned between them, and the doctor says he will stay alive until you separate the vehicles. They call his family, and his wife shows up with the little daughter (usually in her best little Easter dress) clutching some daisies. They give the tearful goodbye.
The doctor makes them leave then they separate the vehicles and he dies. The tale teller either witnessed it himself, or knows someone that did. Heard that tale 20 times too.
The Militay is famous for this, because the teller is transplanted to another base/state/country so verification is impossible. When pressed, the story always falls apart.

wow, some of you need to open the garage door and let the smoke out. You have been in a little too long. Why is it so hard to believe what king is saying?  I am the lady that is asking for info about the 76 honda. My husband can no longer ride and looking at this bike everyday knowing he cant ever fix it like he wanted is very depressing. He wanted to just give it to someone that he knew would get it on the rode. With Christmas around the corner, I suggested that we put it on craigslist and get a little for it. Just minutes after posting we had lots of calls. To be fair we let the first caller have a chance to come get it. He brought his wife and the whole time my husband said she was looking at it like it was junk. he said it was not what he was looking for. We took it off craigs list because of all the calls and thought for sure it was sold. I decided to look it up and get the value for it. I found a few web sites and e-mail info about this bike. Carpy and Customekingcycle were the only to respond without being so rude. King was very helpful and gave me some info. So thank you king for not being rude as some people are.
am not calling into question King's story, but the tale of the ultra rare care car in the old ladies garage myth.

I search Craiglist all over the country for a good deal on a new project bike and frankly I never saw it listed! Did any one other than KingCustomCycles see this posted on Craiglist?
I had it on craigslist for one day. He didnt say he saw the post. He said i contacted about the bike. I told him I had it on craigslist...... ::)

You heard the lady, get out your checkbooks and put your money where your mouth is on eBay. Is it possible to end a thread when I regret even starting it?  Thanks again, most of you.   8)

not as rare as you think, I know where 2 Shelby's sit right now, if you really have the money they'll fall out of the sky.

last year we had a  1964 Dodge Polars dual 4, 4 speed car in the shop, it's just a car and fools weren't willing to pay crazy money for a name, thats all they would be, is a car.

If you do good work, and have a good name, good people will ask for advise, because they know you give an honest answer. All a true craftsmen has that is worth anything is his name and his skill.

last post on this
