Be careful spraying WD40 on your pipes, it is highly flammable and some water would have the same result...

. ...A question for you guys and would appreciate knowledgable answers...I have what I think is a '76 or later tank on here, as it has the single outlet petcock on the left hand side, my k5 has dual outlet pet cock on the right hand side, did bikes with this newer arrangement come with PD carbs?  I can't really see a good way to arrange the fuel lines with the petcock on the left and these carbs.  Here's a pic of what I did.  Seems to work alright but I am concerned about proper fuel supply.  If anyone has a pic of what they did in a similar parts swap situation, please point me to it.

Thanks Mick.  You're absolutely right.  Why use wd40 when water is free?  Guess it was just the closest spray device to hand.  Although, I have spent hours on my back underneath some rusty lump, roasting some rusty bolt coated with wd40 with a propane torch, I've only ever got it to steam.  Maybe you Australians get the good flammable stuff.  Yeah guys, guess I'd have to recommend water.

I am just glad the closest spray device was not a can of starting fluid!  :o

Well, I'm just really lucky there was no sparks coming off my exhaust pipes.  Another parts swap question...did something change about the brake arm on the rear drum between k2 and k5?  I swapped the brake arms cuz the k2 still had chrome on it.  Now I had to tighten up the adjuster on the k5 with the k2 arm on it, and no amount of adjusting will get the k5 to work on the k2.

We used to make potato cannons out of heavy grade PVC pipe and a spark starter from a BBQ as the triggering device, a squirt of WD40 into the chamber and that little BBQ starter ignited the WD40 every time, also blew 2 foot of flame out the barrel.... ;D ;D ;)

Yep, I did the same except we preferred Aqua Net hair spray for some reason...we used the local colleges practice football field as a potatoe firing range...not the best idea while the team was practicing :o

Props for working on the bike while drinking 4LOKO!  It is now banned here in Texas, haha.

Nice work so far!

Well, its cold, snowy, and boring here in Michigan tonite so I thought I would post up a little handlebar swap I did last winter.  "not much to it", you're probably thinking right now and generally I would agree...except stuff just never goes as planned.  So all the switchgear wiring goes through the handle bars on our `bikes, right?  I figured I would just disconnect all the color coded bullets in the headlight bucket and pull 'em through still connected to the switchgear.  I got the throttle side harness through with a little effort.  But the larger harness on the clutch handle side just wouldn't budge.  I squirted all kinds of wd40 in there and pulled and pulled.  Seems rust inside the bars was really jamming things up.  Then I had a brilliant idea.  I thought a little heat might help break the rust's bond so I applied the flame from a propane torch to the outside of the bars.  "The shiny chrome is gonna reflect most of the heat", I thought as I applied a little more flame.  "OOps there's that wd40 steamin again".  I pulled on the wires and they slid out just like butter, unfortunately, by this time, they had melted into one goey solid mass of different colored rubber and copper. :o  I ended up splicing in new wire to the original harness by soldering and heat shrink tubing.

The clubman bars I was swappin' to, of course, had no dimples or holes for internal wiring.  I used a die grinder to clearance my switch housing's for the wiring to run on the underside of the bars.  This was easy and worked pretty good.  You clean build sticklers will probably disaprove of this method, but I hardly notice some neat bundles on the underside of the bars.  All that was left now was to route the bundles back to the headlight bucket and reconnect all the bullets.  It still took me about 8 hours to decipher all the "fool proof" color coding and get everything to work right again.  So, take good notes and pictures if your gonna do this.  It will save ya a lot of time.

I wish that the hilarous picture hadn't disappeared.  It seems the photobucket has a leak in it.  Anyway, thought about trading the Wolverine (wacky paint K2) for this cute little giant killer...

Yeah, it's a 73'ish(I think I saw a build date in 72 on the neck)RD 350.  I decided I don't need another non-running project right now, especially a two stroke that I don't know much about.  I told my buddie that I'd be into the trade once I decide which 750 motor is getting built.  I also got a KZ1000 project going on.

Speaking of trades, I have made a pretty cool one.  I recorded a demo for a friends band, in trade for a paint job for the K5.  I got the recording equipment, he owns a body shop.  He's got his work cut out for him though.

I also get to store and work on my bike in his well heated and equipped shop all winter.  I hope to get a lot of general clean up type stuff done and hopefully overhaul the frontend and swingarm.  Here's some pics of the nasty's...

So I got all the trim stripped off the bodywork in preparation for uh...bodywork.  I haven't decided what to do about the tank emblems.  Is there a reasonably economical source for a replacement if I decide to use them?  Otherwise, the tank mounts will get smoothed and I will use decals.  I know for sure I'm gonna delete the trim strip on the bottom edge of the tank.  I removed the gas cap and latch by gently tapping out the pins with a slender punch.  Hoping when I put the pins back that there is enough metal left to peen the ends back out so they stay put.  I've heard that suitable replacements can be tricky to source.

At least I know what to do about the sidecover situation thanks to a replacement from Frankenstuff.  Also see his points cover dressing up my otherwise grungy engine.  I really can't thank Frankie enough for this stuff.  Everything fits like a glove.  All I'm gonna have to do is a very slight clean up on the emblem indents for that cover to be perfect.  Heck, I'm so lazy I'll probably just call it good, who notices that stuff anyway.  This bike sure ain't meant to be no concourse trailer queen.  The points cover did require slight clearancing on the screw boss for the condenser.  Electronic ignition guys can forget about this step.  All in all, everybody should be sending money to Frankie right now.  Affordable, high quality reproductions with friendly service are not to be overlooked in the modern world!

I have discovered that the K5 frame of this bike has been fitted with a K1 engine so I ain't gonna feel bad about any non-matching number engine swaps.  Like I would anyway...  Also my K2 has a K1 engine but I think it's possible that could have been done at the factory.  Knowledgeable remarks on this are welcome.

Here are some reasonably priced tank emblems, not sure if they are an exact match though.

Not like it's gonna be a concours trailer queen!
