Thanks for the tip Steve-o.  I'm gonna have to see how that tank dent works out before I know if the mount boss can even be used.  I guess there is always the 3-m trim cement option though.  I bet the proper emblems come up on e-bay from time to time too.

I have started tearing apart the front end for some rebuild and cleanup.  Also some other parts like the battery box...pictures show what I had, and with the rust sanded off ready for primer and paint.  This picture also includes the tool tray and my fabricated seat bracket.

My master cylinder had started seeping a little at the handle, so I pulled the brakes for a rebuild and some clean up.  Pulled the gauges too for some cosmetic work...Anybody know what that little bracket behind the brake light switch is for?

I used a similar sized roll of masking tape to judge how dented up my gauge buckets were, then hammer and dollied 'em back into shape.  Also the gauge bodies in primer.  I decided I'm not spending any time on new gauge faces...it's very time consuming dis/re-assembleing those gauges, they work alright, and I don't mind an old bike showing it's age here and there.  Every once in a while I will see beautiful women with grey hair.

Here are some shots of my master cylinder rebuild.  I found really good tips on this site for getting that darn snap ring out.  I lost the link I had to the best one.  Basically it said to use the bake lever pivot bolt and a screw driver to lever in the piston.  Then you can get at that snap ring with some snap ring pliers.  I used some quite long nosed right angle ones that I borrowed from my Harley mechanic buddie.  Sorry, no pic.  If anyone is having trouble, I will go grab a pic of those pliers 'cuz they really did the trick.

I decided all the aluminum parts are gonna get stripped of paint and anodizing and get polished...not too shiny though.

I've found that as far as polishing aluminum, I just like to sand deep gouges with 120 grit sandpaper, rub everything til it's even with a red 3m scotchbrite, then polish with a standard chrome/metal polish.  This will leave ya with a slightly brushed but smooth finish.  Here are some completed assembly glamor shots...

A buddy of mine has rented a shop space combined with an apartment.  Check out what the previous tenant hasn't got around to moving out yet!

Just read your build thread, keep up the good work.  That bracket holds the brake line in place so it will not loosen...Larry

Just lots of stripping, sanding, polishing, and a little painting.  That top triple tree took a few hours and I didn't even go as far as I have seen others

Not sure what you used for paint here, however if its not a caliper paint or a heat paint its going to discolor a bit getting darker. Ask me how I know ;)

Every thing looks good tho!

nice...this is encouraging as I wasn't planning on clear coating my aluminum parts.  Did you?  Also I like what you did with your handlebar clamp/indicator light thing.  I am thinking of losing mine...but I want the bright and oil pressure indicators.  I've been thinking about wacking that thing down to just the clamps like this...but then I gotta do something about those indicators.

I don't see a picture but assume you are talking about an earlier set up with just the clamps and the lights in the gauges. I've seen all kinds of different ways to do it in this club and it just boils down to what you like. I don't recommend clear coating because even if you could get it to stick.....it will yellow out on you in no time. Better to just repolish every now & then.

like this? ...cutting on the black line.  But then I realized I could just use the early clamps that don't have the indicator dash...just like you say. :)
