thank you sir... I am still learning...dont think i will ever stop learning.

I am currently trying to figure out how to drill a hole in the fuel tank for my return line without getting a crap ton of metal chips in the tank... any suggestions?

You can try coating the drill bit with grease like you would with a tap to catch the metal chips

wouldnt hurt to put some magnets around where you are drilling, to keep bits from travelling too far.

I can appreciate wanting to minimize the chips inside the tank, but are you not planning to give it the most thorough of thorough cleanups when you're done?

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

the tank is in really good condition... no need for an excessive cleanup if i can contain the metal chips...

Quick update... Got the steering stem to the point that i could install it into the lower triple tree...

Install went well thanks to thermodynamics...

once i figured out the new bearing stack height, I proceeded to start cleaning up the casting lines of the lower triple tree to get it ready for paint.

I get some time off tomorrow too... so i will get the gas tank drilled for fuel return and braze in the return fittings...

Life goes a lot easier when you work WITH thermodynamics rather than against it. :)  Stem looks great.

Good.  I don't know why, but I get really stressed out when I see casting lines left on project bikes.

Keep up the good work!

yeah, the casting lines on a GSXR are not bad... they get covered up by fairings and no one ever sees them unless it is in for a repair...

I am going to shave off a bunch of the mounts on the lower triple as well that they used for mounting the horn and stuff...

Were you able to cut the metric threads with the lathe that you have?  Or did you just find a standard equivalent that was close enough?

Justin, let me axe you a queshon.  What are you doing for a front wheel and how are you going to get it to fit the CBR front end (25mm axle right?)  Making a new axle or putting bigger bearings in the wheel?

It's Stu BTW.

I will be using my stock rim... and tire for a little while. At some point in time, I will be upgrading the hub, and rim to something else.

I will be using the CBR 25mm axle. i will be installing bearings in my stock hub that will fit the appropriate O.D./I.D. combination. I will then machine my own spacers to center the hub. and machine my own hub centric rotor spacers to align the rotors with the calipers.

well... I have slacked on keeping the build up to date. Some life changes happened and got in the way of the build. But progress has been made... Unfortunately, one of my furry friends that walks on all fours knocked a whole cup of water on my computer and fried it which caused me to loose most of my build process pictures that I was taking. I will have to take some updated pictures and post them up.

Here are some that were still in the camera...

Had to plumb the tank for delivery and return... this is what I came up with, and it works out GREAT. All brass fittings, and then I brazed them onto the tank for a nice leak free seal.

I also got the front stock wheel and hub mounted onto the 1000RR inverted forks. I turned up some spacers to center it out properly.

I will update with some more pictures and videos soon. ohh... and BTW... The fuel injection works... and the bike drives...

went out in the garage and took some quick pictures for all of you.... hope you like them...

Some quick shots of the front and the throttle bodies on the motor...

Machining another set of stock CB750 hubs to make my hub-centric rings for mounting my 1000RR rotors to the original CB750 hub and wheel....

To further enhance the front end braking of this soon to be beast will come by way of brembo... soon enough a matching hydraulic clutch master cylinder will be waiting for its time to be installed...

I also picked up a motor to be used as a mock up motor for when the frame building begins... It is also the mock up motor for some parts that I am making...

Hope you guys like where this is headed... I still need to come up with a project name for this thing...Was thinking maybe project "Shinobi"...

Hey,

You mentioned in a previous post that you used a different set of bearings to fit the 25mm axle.  Were they 6905-2RS 25X42X9mm?  Did you make space for bearing seals?

CWchan... i cant remember the bearing that I used... I lost all my pictures when my computer died. If you call cbrbearing.com, they will tell you what bearing you need to make that swap. I did not use dust seals as the bearings themselves are fully sealed and I do not plan on riding this bike in conditions that I would need to utilize the dust seals. I am also going to be having a custom set of hubs made for the bike in the future. The set up that I am using right now is simply to get the bike up and running so that I can test the fuel injection system.

lord member... THANKS!!! yours is lookin good too!
