Thanks to RetroRocket I'm back watching this thread.

That bike/work of yours is very cool, and inspirational, as is.
To be honest, I'm heading down a very similar path, and I only hope it works out as well as yours.

lol. I am glad you found good use for my pictures retro....

Thank you FF.

Ran into some problems with the bike... some of which I knew I was going to have problems with and other i didn't.

- Charging system isnt even close to keeping up... I rode the bike around the block and the battery died. time for a charging system upgrade...

- bike is currently not starting... trying to diagnose what is going on. something happened when the battery died. possibly corrupted a file in the tune. I reflashed the ECU tonight so we will see if she is back up and running tomorrow.

I seem to remember another member adapting a VFR800 rotor/stator to the end of the CB750 crank.  I'm sure you remember the thread as I think you'd chimed in there as well.

sure do. looking into other bikes to see what would work as well.

anyone know if the tapers on the crank for the rotor is the same throughout all the years that the SOHC was made? if so, that would be nice as I have a spare crank that I can play with.

He was probably talking about the crankshaft info.  MRieck does a lot of motor work from what I gather.  BTW, were you the guy I talked to about the CBO side cover paint?

I am very interested in the fuel injection modification.

I do not understand why you want it to be a Mono shock system.
What would the reason be?

Thanks for posting.

The medium attaching the two dissimilar metals together must have a lower melting temp than the mating metals. other than tin and mag not many thing fit that bill and are compatible with steel and aluminum

what does the sensor look like?
You cannot weld steel to aluminum.

In the boat building world you can buy blocks of steel bonded with aluminum by high pressure explosion joining process. They use these blocks to weld aluminum wheel houses onto steel decks.

You can machine a special nut with a screw boss to attach to your sensor.
Another common method is drilling a hole through a engine cooling fin and attaching a  aluminum mount plate.

I could just get an aluminum nut and weld it to the aluminum fin... most likely the way that I will accomplish this.

Thanks for posting.

numerous performance reasons for wanting a mono-shock system. to name just a few, ease of tuning (only have to tune one shock vs. two) less un-sprung weight, not having the possibility of manufacturing tolerances causing one shock to be slightly different than its counterpart (having to fight to match the shocks during tuning.)... The list goes on really. but ultimately, I like the look of a mono-shock setup. I will be designing and building my own swing arm to properly utilize the mono-shock setup.

Was there a reason you used reverse jaws to make axle spacer or just too idle to switch them?  ;)
Parallel spacer is much lighter but I've been making complete cover/spacer when speedo drive is removed as it looks better (lot more work as well, you have to start with 2-1/2" bar)

Good.  I don't know why, but I get really stressed out when I see casting lines left on project bikes.
Me too, particularly a 'high end custom' (eg, 'Cafe Racer' TV by well known CAR builder)

PJ.... The axle spacers are simply there to do their job. I don't know if i mentioned this in a previous post or not, But I am having hubs custom made to the application by a well known dirt bike hub manufacture. Once I have those hubs and I am doing final assembly, I will make some better looking spacers. Right now I am simply focused on getting the bike functional so that I can test the fuel injection properly.

I read that, sounds expensive to have hubs made?
$4~500.00?

will be well worth it. stronger, lighter, better designed, better bearing selection, will be made to the specifications so that I dont have to have rotor adapters... tons of benefits to it. once i get those, i will make some cool axle spacers that are functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Sounds real good and should look even better
I thought you would have hub made to spec so separate spacers were not required
Looking forward to it, I love messing with bits of alloy in lathe/mill  ;)

axle spacers will always be necessary for hub centering and proper axle torquing. I think its gonna turn out real good.

I am thinking about possibly running Performance Machines Black Ops wire wheel hoops laced to my hubs. not sure yet.

Sorry, I meant rotor spacer not axle spacer.
I need to take a look at the performance machines rims

Looky looky at what I am working on... Anyone else want a set?

They will be adjustable, with proper folding pegs to allow for kick starting. They will also be set closer inboard on the bike to get your legs tighter up on the bike. As well as being COMPLETELY bolt on with the option of using stock master cylinder/drum brake set up, or using aftermarket (newer style) rear master cylinders.
