Well another vacation has come and gone. I am motivated again for the S90. Took it out of the shed this past weekend. Here are a few pics of the little bugger.

My plan is to do more of a clean up rather than a total teardown resto. I want it to look its age. No BS. No cafe. No hypo for now. Just get it together, clean and show it to one of my oldtimer buddies.

Following this build. Here's a picture of my (non-running) S90 in the window of my retail shoppe. I keep threatening to get it running some day.

IMHO, they're far more desirable, and therefore more valuable in stock form anyway.  Looks like fun!

Steve O, I am not used to that new avatar. I miss the ol'Blue.
I opened up my box of parts to see what is there. Most of it I bought.....5 years ago.

I have the original seat with a new cover and the stock exhaust as back up in case these new things are just toooo nice.

You can Cafe these bikes without cutting them up, Scott did his this way (see photo; from Yahoo S90 Group homepage). He's on the Yahoo S90 group. Very knowledgeable group over there on the S90s. Helpful as well. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Honda-S90/

I have a '70 CS90, yes, it is a 1970, says so on the EPA sticker on the neck of the steering column, US market bike. 1st one the S90 group had ever heard of, as they were suppose to stop being made in '69.

They are a cool fun bike that get lots of attention and comments when you ride one. Quick trips can turn into longer affairs by the people who want to talk to you about the bike.  One of the classy designs that Honda engineers turned out.

Yeah, makes me feel like a bad dude. Might look a little over the top while riding around on the S90 though.

Yeah, I'm looking for something a little more retro for the CA95.  An old Schott would be cool.

I am such a screwball with wiring.
The drawing that I have shows that this plug goes to the ignition switch..then there is a wiring diagram in the back of the same book that shows the ignition with just 2 wires. Ug.

Can this bike run without a battery?

it CAN run without a battery, but you shouldn't. The battery helps keep the stator from putting out tons of juice. Tie the red to the red/white and you should get spark with no battery, but at high rpms, you'll blow every light bulb on the bike (if they're on). Also, make sure the red white is on the battery side of the fuse. Otherwise, if the fuse ever pops while riding, it'll also blow the bulbs. Do not ask me how I found that out. ;)

oh, and that plug goes to the rectifier. I was missing the airbox, and people want a lot for banged up ones, so i made one from a coffee can. I found a crappy chrome dress-up air filter (looks like for a 2 barrel) for about $9 at auto zone, then put some 1/4 20 threaded rod with wing nuts on both sides, and used an old Nvr dull Lid on the other side

well, I guess I should go on over to ebay and throw more money into it. I have a NOS main wiring harness..to that connection, and nothing after that. There are wires in the frame that go to nothing. All wires to lights were just out hanging there. I dont see where the battery would even hook up?

The wiring for all lighting happens in the bucket, the only thing in the middle is the batt/rectifier & comically oversized winker relay. There really isn't a lot to it. That plug only goes to the rectifier. Should leave you with a red, red/white and green.. All 3 get hooked to the batt

So....it turns out that my bike is a 65 and not a 69. I am still messing with wires. New tires are on , sandblasted the fenders, triple top and airbox assembly. Pics tonight.

I didnt want to paint anything on the bike, I wanted it to look more 'survivor' rather than 'restore', but PO had painted the rear fender 30 years ago.....and there was a run.

Well, it might be worth about 300 more than the later year bike...

Honda super 90 was my first bike. I don't remember what year it was but I bought it with my newspaper route money for $100 around 1969. I used to sneak out and deliver my papers on it a few years before I had my drivers license. Sold it for what I paid and bought a 1968 Kawasaki 120. It was a hyper little smoker and thats what I really learned to ride on. Traded it up for a 305 Scrambler that was stripped for the dirt. What a beast for a kid not even old enough to ride!!! The good ole days!! 8)
