Before you paint, you can fabricate a mounting bracket that will allow you to fill and paint the screw holes in the fairing. See my gallery pictures.
PS
I like the look of these fairings provided they're color-matched, windscreen height is cut down, and the bike has a suitable style.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

I'm not a big fairings fan for vintage bikes, but I think it looks good either way. I think it looks a little better with the fairing, though. So, I'm a marginal yea.

Beyond the stock restoration look, I guess I would have to say the cafe look is the next best. These are pretty sharp fairings. Too bad it would probably be the end of my back trying to get down behind them to any extent.  :'(

absolutely right Bill , I've had a conversion in faith. I like stock but wow, that Vincent is beautiful. my eyes feast on the shape and lines of the top bodywork - fairing-tank-seat-tailpiece- fender. everything works  perfectly together, a totally together composition ( to my eye)  I want ;D

got carried away and forgot the question.    ::)  FWIW from a cafe  2 hour convert, one  color on the bodywork seems to unify the different components and pull the design together. :)

I have to agree with ya 100%. That bike is kick ass in every way, though I would still say it would look just that much better
with the removal of the front fairing...

Notice the modern inverted front-end with spoke wheels ??

I've got a brand new Viper cafe fairing sitting in the box since around October.  I briefly mounted it and took it off.  Not sure if I like it or not.  I kept putting it on and taking off and I really liked it without better.  Although looking at that AWSOME Vincent I like it.  Cutting the bottom end off the Viper would give you a similar look.  That was the one part of the Viper that I really didn't like, the bottom of it.

Heres another really nice fairing, full sized but not clumsy looking. I wouldnt mind getting ahold of one of these. If anyone knows the manufacturer, please let us know. Perhaps I'll just contact Mr. Godet.

I don't have to tell you but, nothing beats the classic looks of a Vincent stock or otherwise.
My Dad got a chance to ride a Black Shadow year ago (in the early 50's) and they were capable
of 120 or better then. Later on, Bill

I always thought my old beemer was classy looking too...

to keep on topic, some cafe style fairings are REALLY cool, like some of the above ones I linked to. I think they would look fantastic on a CB that has the right kind of styling.

         Hey mlinder,

The BMW, to me, is in a different class and that's no to say that it's not classic in it's
own rite, because it is. There are several bikes from back in time (and some in the present)
that have held and will continue to hold a significant place in the history of motorcycles. I've
never had a BMW or even ridden one but, I've kind of kept up with them from the ones in
the 50's with the Earles front forks, on through to the horizontal inline 4 and to the present. I
just feel that, when you are talking Classic looks and Speed, you're talking Vincent. My
opinion, of course. There was supposed to be a New Vincent coming out but with a Honda
engine. The article, I read on it, was pretty impressive and the bike had that Vincent look. I
think it was called "Black Lighting"  I don't know it it's still in the works, I don't remember
which engine it was and I don't know if the Honda engine was supposed to be a temporary
thing or not. I'll try to doublecheck that and pass it on, if anybody's interested. later on, Bill

Of course. The Vincent is the benchmark of it's class, without a doubt. Everything else falls quite short of it in it's class.

Nay...  My bike came with one and I took off within two hours.  One of these days I'm going to put it on ebay, or the trash.

That's the standard 30 dollar cafe fairing that's available anywhere. I'm not thrilled wiht it's shape (or it's construction/quality).
I wouldn't use that one either. Just because one fairling looks dumb, doesn't meqn another won't look good, if you can find a good one.

I agree about the design of the fairing and I also think that the color on the fairing would
have a lot to do with the look. A paint job can help it to blend in, you know. Sometimes, maybe
some kind of pattern or stripes, things like that. If you just stick a black fairing on a red bike, or
whatever color, it's not going to look as good as it would if it matched. Sometimes it takes a little
imagination. But, of course, the final decision is up to that person and shouldn't be based on what
someone else thinks. Later on, Bill

In that case, it goes in the trash, unless somebody in Cincinnati wants to take it off of my hands?

Oh Yeah, That Vincent looks good with or without it. But KC, your bike (in these photos) is
looking GOOD! I don't know man, with the modifications that you are planning on that fairing,
might make the difference you are looking for. Of course it's your bike and your decision but, it's
sharp looking ride now. Either way, I figure we'll all be waiting to see what you do and how it turns
    out. Later on,  Bill
