Fairing.......Yea or Nay?
« on: March 17, 2006, 09:57:27 AM »
Mounted the Cafe fairing last night for the ride to work this morning......didnt make a difference.....still was cold.  ;D

I sort of like it  ???  but I think the bike looks meaner without it.

Opinions?

I have had this same debate with myself many times. Sometimes I really like the look with the fairing other times I really like the "naked" look. Nice thing about my fairing is that its quite easy to take on and off. If you do go with the fairing get it painted to match that green - that will look awesome!

I agree with kc & martini,

I kinda like the look of the fairing but, I'm not always sure if I would use it. I've got one
myself that I'd like to use. The only thing is I, like kc, am just not sure. In my own opinion, I do
think kc's bike looks better without the fairing. I Do feel that your 750 looks meaner without the
fairing. Now martini's comment makes sense, if it was green like your bike, that might make a big
difference. I know what you are going through, I get into the same indecision about whether to
use one thing or another quite often. I'm trying to get myself straight on some of the parts to use
on my 77' CB550K. I don't to hijack this from kc, so I'll get outta here. Later on, Bill :) ;)

I think it's a good look. But look, the only time I was right was once when I thought I was wrong and like usual, I was.

Yes please on the fairing!  I took mine off after a minor mishap and can't wait to get a new bubble so I can re-mount.  This was the look I thought was sooooo cool in High School back in the day (and still do).

Yeah I got hooked on the look back in 79 or so.........when Mad Max came out. Anybody know of a site that has some pics of the bikes they rode in the movie? I know of one for the cars, but seeing some good pics of the bikes they rode would be killer.

I see everybody else feels the same pretty much........undecided.

I think it would probally look better if the black part of the fairing was painted green also. Its the look I was gonna shoot for on my H1 Kawa.

The only fairings I like are colour-matched Dunstall replicas.  It might look good without the windshield part, painted. Or just a flyscreen without the cowling.  Sort of a mini-Brooklands for bikes.

Loose it. Does nothing but hide all the old school gauges and the mechanics of the bars, steering, cables like all the other cool stuff on our bikes that make them so different ;D

I just put one on that looks like yours but I'm still undecided.I like the look but think it would be more effective with low bars and I'm runnin' stock.I'd rather have my gauges and stuff hangin' out there but I'd also like to have less wind on the highway!(gettin' old or what?) I guess its just a personal decision to run it or not. It is easy enough to switch it out either way. Lets do a poll....this club looooooves polls.....bullet fairing or nay?

Will probally take it to my father inlaws today since its gonna be cold here for a week or 2. After I got it road ready I just had to put some miles on it. It wasnt that bad of a ride really....except when going over tracks or something, then I would lift up a little.

When I got my CB500K, it had a funky forkmounted fairing (like a Wixom or something), it
wasn't in very good shape and at least the stock headlight was still in place when I removed the
fairing. Also, my 80' CB750K (I know, it's not a SOHC) had a Windjammer IV on it and that was
the 1st thing to come off. Talk about a lot of weight! I know they're good for highway use and
all but, I'd rather have a nice sporty type windshield (they have some now that are easily
removed, when not needed) I know that you wouldn't want one on a cafe, chopper, bobber or
anything like that. My CB500K and my CB750K are mostly stock. Now the others, that's a totally
         different situation. Later on, Bill

Got to say I love my vetter fairing on my bike, makes a huge difference on the highway and around town, has deflected more than a few rocks being kicked up from another car's ,better it hit the fairing than me,of course the wife feels that a sharp blow to the head might be just what I need :D

I suspect that is a common feeling among SOHC4 wives or GF's, including mine.  ;D
