Wanna Drink and Drive?
« on: December 02, 2010, 08:55:21 PM »
My colleague in the ER, cowgirl, passed this one on.  I'm proud to say I mentored her as a young EMT.  She did her first ever ambulance run with me, on a bad trauma by the roadside.  Please, you all; say safe out there.  Drive safely and watch out for all the folks who aren't.  To the Aussies:  good job, mates.  This film can really make a difference.

good post medic09,especially as the "silly season" is upon us,hands up anyone who has never ever gotten home or driven while drunk,or been driven by a mate who was drunk,or had a close call because you were drunk etc,(my hand is down),theres talk of a .02 limit here ,which i think is only a revenue thing,as the police always boast how so many were tested and only so many were over our .05,"which is pleasing"from one cop on tv news ,reduce it to .02 and get more money, kunts.but on the serious side take care and think your second drink if driving, years ago i set myself a zero on the bike limit,no exceptions,i dont want it enforced though!

There was a study done a while back wherein several fraternity members (read: experienced drinkers) were allowed to drink in a controlled environment with instructions to speak up and take sobriety tests once they felt they were too intoxicated to drive safely.  They got drunk, and by the end of the experiment none had blown over a .08 (legal limit in Oregon).

This link:

http://www.bobandtom.com/videos

...contains a video in which a radio personality, Chick McGee of the Bob and Tom show, volunteered to drink 10 shots of vodka on the air in a four hour period.  The video is taken at 7 shots in, at which point he blew a .05.

The "legal limit" needs to be lowered.  Period.

I'm sure this will be most unpopular, but I think it should be "zero" tolerance, just like weapons in schools. Drink OR drive, not both. And yes, I do enjoy a beer or Manhattan at times. Let the" yeah, buts," begin.  :)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

YEAH BUT we are safe on the roads because I can't text and drive, or ride without a helmet, or drive without a seatbelt  ::)

"Drink OR drive" - absolutely!
It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

Unfortunately, people are now texting while they drive at night, which is obviously more dangerous than driving/texting during the day.
They are also texting with the thing their lap when previously they would text at least with the device up on the wheel.
Granted they may at least be looking ahead further and paying extra attention (if you can term it as "extra") in looking for cops, but there is no substitute for a fully aware driver.  The statistics show this, and it is a bulletproof issue IMO.

To be clear: I am against texting and driving as well.  HOWEVER: there is no allowance for a little bit of texting.  Like - "Your honnor, my client's text was only 32 characters..."
You can't wear your helmet a little bit.  Well, maybe like this chick:

I can have my seatbelt on part of the way and still get a ticket.  But I can be a little tipsy and drive?  Ridiculous.

You have to respect the elders but my mother-in law doesn't know what she had for lunch 1/2 hour later but she is a licensed driver. That said, we sold her car.

I used to drink (and other things) and drive almost daily. The only thing that made me stop was becoming a father. I wanted to be here for my little guy when he grew up. Now he's 13 and I'm still here. He doesn't know how much he changed my life, and possibly saved it.

There is a strong and clear message here.
Sadly it just doesn't seem to get through with some.

that is a very persuasive film , i think the alcohol limit should be zero . then everyone would know exactly where they stand , if your going out for a drink get a taxi it will work out much cheaper in the end

Are there enough taxis in England to make this plan work?  :-\

yes plenty , it seems all the people that are loosing there jobs because of the economy are becoming taxi drivers to make ends meet
my point was that if there was a zero limit people wouldn't have to decide if they were too pissed to drive or not ,they would know that if they had a drink they could not legally drive . i can see how this would be a pain if you live in the country .
