Advice on painting my tank
« on: March 17, 2006, 10:25:54 AM »
Seeing all the shiny bikes out there has got me motivated to try and repaint my tank. I know the basics of sanding it down and tapping it off, etc. but any hints, tips, experiences would be appreciated. I also have a small crease just below the fuel cap that i need to fill in. Here are some pics.

Any ideas?? Rmember i have NEVER done this before.   :-*

Mine was no trouble at all...ofcourse I have a neighbour who has his own mobile paint business and was looking to broaden his horizons to include bikes and needed a guinea pig.

Tank and both sidecovers for $60 and a case of Molson Export!

Hardest part of the whole paintjob was stomaching one of those Exports while admiring the stuff after it was put back on the bike...

Any time im painting something, anything, I use Bulldog adhesion promoter before the primer and again before I paint and ive never had paint peals. The biggest hint is that when your drying, if you think youve waited long enough between coats, wait another hour and if you think youve done your last clear coat, do two more.

1. Sand off the old paint
2. Rattlecan with Duplicolor Low-Gloss Engine Enamel
3. Call it a day  ;D
