Howdy,

Been lurking for a few weeks getting to know the place and reading some of the fine details to help get my 1973 CB750 K3 Cafe Racer up and running good. Purchased this off of Craiglist about 2 months ago and have enjoyed having something to tinker with again after closing my automotive performance shop in January 2010. We should call this my first motorcycle. ;)

Got to say taking on a new forum is always overwhelming. But the hunger to learn is alive and I'm really grateful for the advice I've been able to pull already when tackling some of the early challenges I've experienced so far. Thank you. We have a good crew of SOHC people here in the District of Columbia that are very interested in these bikes. We try to wrench on the weekends and really just find the time working and riding relaxing. Last weekend we did a full clutch refresh on my K3 including springs, plates and fibers as well as Dyna-S coil replacements on a CB350F we've been cleaning up. We're novices for sure and just like to play for fun. That said, if you're in the Metro/DC area and want to hang/ride, please feel free to PM me.

The future plans for the K3 include big bore 836cc engine, more cool parts, lots of polishing and powdercoating. The 1973 was my first and since owning her I went overboard deep and purchased a 1975 CB750F for my wife and 1973 CB350F for a good friend. I'm hoping to go thur both these and bring them up to speed for the Spring. Looks like we have a few projects for the winter.

Stev-0

Thanks for the compliment! The engine is very very strong on the K3. She's got a little over 43K on her and I guess the prior owner(s) took care of her because she doesn't smoke or burn a drop it seems. The only sad part is 2nd gear seems to be shot. I was hoping the clutch re-build was going to help because the whole clutch pack was slipping but second was always jumping in and out of gear. The clutch upgrade corrected the slip in the other gears but 2nd is done.

The pictures for the CB350F and CB750F are not that good but here they are.

The issue with your 2nd gear might be the shifter fork. Search for more info
The other bikes look good too, but it doesn't look like an F model?

Your lucky your wife is into bikes, my wife prefers the boat!

Shifter fork. Thanks for the tip!

I think the F looks weird because it has the wrong fender and seat on it. IDK, Maybe the 1975 750 SuperSport model is not tagged with F? Still very new to this.

Not saying it looks weird, just didn't think it was an F.
Super Sport should be an F. Thought all F's had the tail: [not mine]

Stev-O

Thanks for the F picture. Don't you just love the lines on these bikes! My wife was not into riding at all until the K3 was roaring proudly outside the house. When that happened, I came into the house to hear. "When does my bike show up?" I purchased the 350 for her and she was like "O no, I want a 750 too" :O)

Welcome from McLean.  I have a 350F, and I used to work at the shop in Falls Church.  I don't check in here to "New Member Intros" all that often, so PM me if you need some local help.

As previously mentioned I WAS having an issue with my second gear on my 1973's 750. With advice from several forum members, we thought it was either a worn C5 gear or Shifter Fork issue; either way, it was going to be a split the case and investigate situation. Started researching the purchase for the parts needed to correct and came across a killer deal for a rebuilt 836cc with a mild cam out of a K1. Only problem the engine was in RI and I'm in DC. What to do! Of course you borrow the wifes Honda Fit and you go get it :O) and all the extra parts he offered in the deal.

So this weekend our little DC club tackled its first CB engine swap by successfully pulling my 73 with 43K on it and installing the freshly re-built 1971 836cc. I thought I'd share some pictures of the final install ready to be broken in. For break in, we decided to go with 3 full heat cycles with the initial fire up taken to 4.5K for 30 seconds before letting it completely cool. After the third heat cycle I took it out and used the engine breaking tecnique to finalize the ring sitting. Happy to report all is well. The PO re-built the carbs to showroom detail but went a bit optimistic with his installation of 147.7 main jets. :O) Needly to say it's running rich.

Like to thank my buddies Paul and Peter for their endurance and patiences to get this in and running over the weekend. Learning lots from them and cannot say thank you enough. Likewise, another shout out to Hondaman for the sequencing to painlessly pull and install this. Now what to do with the 1973 engine. Probably another winter project to split the case and fix that C5 gear or fork right.

Wow good score on the 836 cc engine in RI - how did I miss that! Boston is closer ;) Anyway sounds like you got a good deal on the carbs...looking forward to more updates.

cheers

Thanks Andy!
Not really sure how I came across this deal but it was huge. I think eBay and then some friends of friends but anyway I got the carbs with the 836cc plus a bounty of 750 parts that I'll eventually get around to fully offering for sale on the forum.

I did however want to mention the SS oil lines I installed on my 836 build. I purchased these courtesy of
Craig DellaVedova "classicrides@ymail.com " via eBay (userID vintagetinfinder). I think he lurks around here as a active member but not sure of his screen name. Anyway these lines are a thing of beauty and I highly recommend them. Apparently, he worked for a few months to find original ferrels to re-man our stock ends with SS HP hose. Check these pictures out.

@ Stev-O
I'm not sure about a seat yet as nothing out there I like is a affordable; lets just say.
Oil Lines are $80.00 a set.
I have 115, 117.5, & 120 main jets on the way.
