Nice work.  Did you have any problems with the carbs?  How dirty were they?
They weren't as dirty as I thought they would be but dirty enough. They are much cleaner now. As far as problems go, the only thing that was annoying was getting the choke stuff lined up. We'll see if I put it back together all right once they are back on the bike . . . I'm hoping so :)

Its alive!
Not a valid youtube URL[/youtube]

Installed the carbs back on the bike and it started right up. Runs a little ruff but I would say pretty good for my first carb rebuild ever. Nothing is even tuned yet. Should be running pretty well soon. Now time to find out why the brake light wont turn off . . .

Your brake light may be stuck because the switch could be sticking.  Mine was, and I bought an emgo, works great now.  It could be a wiring issue though, and that's no fun.

If the rear brake switch is sticking, pull the rubber sheath back and press the two little tabs in on the sides and pull the outer case off, clean everything up and re-install. I done this today, its just contacts when the rear brake pedal is pressed it pulls the pin down and makes contact on two copper tabs.

Thanks for the advice. Also, the bike won't stay running unless i have the jumper cables hooked up. I'm guessing this means something is wrong with the charging system on the bike. What should I check first and how? thanks guys

Buy a multimeter if you don't have one.  Then search 'charging' on the forum and have at it.

How old is your battery? If more than 2 yrs, I'd consider replacement. That may not be your issue, but these bikes require a good battery.

Well its been a while but the bike is finally up and running. Got everything tuned and she runs nice. Now that the maintenance is out of the way, time to start buying parts. I already have the clubman bars on the bike, next stop is bar end mirrors, new seat, and new taillight blinker combo.
