I think I'm in love....but!
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:01:52 PM »
Does anyone know much about the Honda VT1100?
Good, bad, whatever!
I'm looking at a rather nice example of one here in NZ and even Google doesn't have much on them apart from that fact that they make the same "potato potato potato" noise as a Harley since they have a single pin crank, oh yeah and they vibrate for the same reason but most owners seem to love the beasts.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I like the ST1100, kinda looks like a cop bike too doesn't it..  It has more protection and looks like it would eat miles for breakfast.... ;)

I think the ST1100 might be your ride.  Another Police Bike.  Can't have too many, aye? lol
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

For what it's worth-friend had the VT1100 and got rid of it for the 1800.   He said it wasn't powerful and smooth enough.  Plus one can never have too many copsickles,  Larry

If you want to ride in formation through town on your way to the bar with a bunch of guys wearing leather vests and do-rags, then buy the VT. You'll fit right in and fall into the pit of anonymity. It is about as interesting as an insurance seminar.

If instead you would prefer some high speed long distance touring and canyon carving with some friends that have actual riding skills, then buy the ST. It is a fun, comfortable mile eater and the V-4 mounted in that configuration is a really interesting departure from the norm for Honda and it works great. A friend of mine had one several years ago and I always enjoyed putting a few miles on it for him. I actually wanted one when I was looking for a replacement for my BMW K100RT. I could have bought about a 2001 model for around $6,000 to $7,000 but I found a 2004 Kawasaki Concours in great shape with only 25K miles for $3,500. I've been pleased with the Concours but would I would have bought an ST if they weren't so pricey.

Either the VT or ST should be very reliable.

I have the ST1300 and just love it. I have two close friends who steered me towards the ST because they both had ST1100's and say they are the best sport touring bikes on the planet. I also have a Kawasaki Nomad V-Twin and it's a pig, no power, no fun. I'd rather ride the ST 10:1.

The V-4 is smooth, powerful, and the bike handles like a dream. Go ST.

Personally, I hope you choose the ST.  I would love to see that as a police bike.  The only problem would be everyone going less than the speed limit when they see you on the highway.  You could get blinded by the brake lights!  ;)

Yes but unlike my CB650PZ the ST1100 would at least be capable of keeping up with traffic! ;D
