CB400F model records
« on: December 08, 2010, 12:55:38 AM »
Hello All,

I am having an issue with the registration of my 1975 CB400F in Queensland Australia. It was acquired in unregistered condition 13 years ago and does not have a VIN (vehicle identification number) plate (or at least not in the time I have owned it). Engine & frame numbers are in the right spots. I did the right thing and spoke with the transport department people prior to lobbing on their doorstep with the bike. They advised that VIN plates were not compulsory prior to 1976 here. So off I went with my safety certificate & their recommended documents to establish ownership.

A problem arose when it was revealed that my mechanic had written the safety certificate out with 1976 as the model date ( I didn't check this as I was quite happy all passed ok). I now have to prove the Transport Department with evidence that my bike is in fact a 1975 build, or face a longer process through head office to get the bike registered. My frame # is 1012816, and the CB400F model records on this site appear to confirm that this is indeed a 1975 build. What I need is something with Honda's stamp/logo on it to lodge.

Perhaps our moderator can point me to the source info for the model that was used on this site, or members might have another link that can assist.

Thanks in anticipation

Justin

Just an update: all is well and the bike was registered today!

Honda Australia's customer relations section advised that, as they were not in existence in 1975 they did not have any records of CB400F's imported into Australia. They also advised that they did not have a Honda Japan link they could recommend, and that even they would be unable to get this information from the head office.

The local transport department supervisor ultimately accepted my email submission including the serial number/model pages from the parts list, plus Photolars link and a couple of others refering to the model years and corresponding serial numbers as adequate evidence of the build year.

So now the on-road testing and fiddling can begin! Thanks to the forum members for their assistance thus far. I'll post some photos when all the rain we have been having here of late clears!

Cheers,

Justin
