attempeted my hand at polishing for the 1st time.   I did everything by hand while watching TV.   Started with a Simple Green bath, then 400 grit wet sand paper, then 800, then 1000, then had polished with Mothers Mag.   Spent probably around an hour on this piece.  Its not perfect but looks pretty good for my 1st effort.

What do you think?

Bought some tires and drag bars today.   I am thinking about using the cb650c tank from my 1st bike build on this bike.   She really likes the idea and the more I look at it, the more I like it.   Let me know what you guys think!

My opinion is use what ever tank you want but make sure you add the mounting brackets in a place to keep the bikes "lines" flat i.e. lift the front of that 650 tank an inch or 2.

I agree.   I think the pic is playing tricks on the eyes.   From a more level angle,  the bottom of the tank is parallel to the lines of the frame.

I finally got the tank stripped and sanded down a little.   The plan is to hammer in some knee indents, smooth them out as much as possible, polish that area, and then swirl the rest of the tank.

I'm a little nervous as this will be my 1st attempt and I dont have an extra tank to practice on!   Planning on selling the cl175 tank to defer some of the costs.   Hope to get started on the rest of the tank tomorrow......

I would not use the metal one. It will leave marks. I used a dead blow hammer. Its rubber so it doesn't leave any marks.

Thanks jj.   I will start working on the tank tomorrow night when I have access to my GF's knees.    ;D

Did a little more cleaning on the tank tonight, mocked it up and shortened my seat.    I need to figure out something for the back of the seat.  I want to put a mini sissy bar or something back there to make sure that the passenger doesnt fall off!  My gf wants to be able to take her 9 year old daughter for rides.  This tank shortens up the seat by a few inches.   I wish it was a tube frame and I could do a loop, so any ideas are welcomed.

Here is where it ended up tonight....

Got lucky and scored a kick starter gear for $10 off ebay!  The low gear on the counter shaft is a little worn, but not nearly as bad as the kicker gear was.  I dont really want to spend $50+ for a used transmission unit.   If the kicker will only be for backup, should I really worry about it?
