I'm somewhat of a newbie here - two-three years. I just spent an hour or so on the sohc4.net parent site which this forum is part of. In reading the material there, it seems that in the beginning, early to mid 1990s, there was a lot of activity, group rides, logo creation and so forth and when much of the original technical information was posted. The old timers here are probably responsible for this. I found one can learn a lot by reading service bulletins.  Anyway I live in Southern Calif where we ride year round but still would like to see someone in the group organize a 1000 mile, five day sohc4 ride in the USA like they did in the nineties. Is this not something that might catch on?

And for those of us not quite up to riding 1000 miles, maybe we could join in for part of the ride.  If someone set up a map with routes and dates it would be easy for others to join in as the 1000 mile group passes by.

Here's something that may be fun...

Do a SOHC4.net relay "race" across North America.  Maybe have a Honda traveling "gnome" (or whatever) and get a picture of him on the seat of a SOHC4 in every state/ provenance (scenic sights of course).  Maybe have a different rider(s) for every state.  At the end of the trip, post up all of the pictures on the forum.  Then have a drawing with everyone who carried him and give him to the lucky winner.  

OK, it may be corny, but it still sounds like fun.  If my bike were up and running, I'd be ready to go!

Well, if he goes international, it could turn out to be a never ending trip.  He could just check in to the forum from time to time.

I love the idea of a relay race/ride. It could go across country which each state's group stopping at their state boundary if they wanted and turn around (or keep going) Could have multiple fingers traversing the country. That way you could ride as little or as much as you wanted. But you'd be riding with SOHCs. It would be epic. Probably end up on the Discovery channel Somebody really organized would have to facilitate I would think,

I'm Subscribed..............Anyone could go along for as long as they want........take pictures at famous places and events.........pass the gnome to a new rider at major boundaries........States, Provinces, Countries, Airports, Shipping Docks..................the gnome should have a signature-page inside.......

What we need is a volunteer from every state and province to get this thing going..........the first one to volunteer for each leg of the trip would be responsible to connect with a neighbor.......even its only a few miles between meetup points.......... priority would be to get to every state and province.

We already have a blog-writer.........If no-one has anything else.......I have a HONDA beer stein that could be passed around with a log-book attached to it. 

I'll ride the Wisconsin stretch and will be ready to go when the ICE melts.

I know the people at MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS magazine.........they may have an interest in carrying the story.........We could arrange to VISIT some of the events (ROAD AMERICA, MID-OHIO VMD, BARBER, BONNEVILLE GP) and include club ride-ins for group pics in the magazine........and ............and...........

I like the idea.  I would like to be involved in the planning(although, I do not have a SOHC).  Just a lowly twin.  I am, however a SOHC wannabe.  Maybe get some other Honda Brothers from the other branches    of the Honda tree involved.  I think it could be great if Interstates are avoided whenever possible.  Set the schedule to allow for a day or so between handoffs in the event of a breakdown, so it won't throw off the rest of the trip.  A relatively standard daily mileage can be established to keep the thing moving along.  Also incorporate some of the nicest roadways in the country(world).  Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge Parkway, PCH, Autobahn, BQE(just kidding) etc.  Lots of pictures and maybe a participant patch.  I am getting way ahead of myself.  

I think if this does get off the ground(or on the road), it can be turned into a great fundraiser for a worthy charity.

nothing wrong with that! The gnome would be on a never ending trip but that's OK. The goal could be to get a pic of him on every member's bike seat with the member of course. Unless you're an outlaw I think that would be a cool way of knowing a little more about our members and their rides.

Maybe by the time he starts his second transglobal trek, my bike will be ready.

Sounds like a job for Frankenstuff. The plastic he uses for sidecovers appears indestructible.

A sock-puppet with a cape and a sohc-wing patch should do............it has to be easily mailed or transported across international boundaries without custom fees and inspection holdups.

In 2004, I organised a SOHC ride for 10 SOHC riders...it was called the SOHC Easy Rider Trip as it followed the same route as in the movie -Easy Rider - starting at the beach next to LAX and finishing in New Orleans. A few of us even went back for the Mardis Gras part . Surprisingly we saw many of the same sights as in the movie - even the former site of the diner and the jail.

It was very international with riders coming from Scotland, England and Germany (those guys bought CB750s off Ebay) as well as Stateside (Virginia, Mass and CA). Age range was mid-20s to late 50s. The whole trip lasted for 16 days and 5500 miles with some riders only doing the parts they could. It was all backroad riding apart from the New Orleans to Boston part for me.

Anyway just to say it can be done - someone just needs to 1) propose it and 2) do it whatever may happen.

Maybe an organizer could start a sign-up list of tentative riders and perhaps some of the legs - east to west or west to est or whatever. Obviously this is a summer time event so some time between June and September 2011? I think I would put together a sohc just for this trip myself.
