Well after much searching and agonizing and dealing with dead beat sellers and much help from folks on this forum I finally picked up a cb750. Its a 79 that has been restored all the way down to powder coating the frame. It needs to be cleaned but is in very good shape cosmetically. I bought it from the original owners brother and it came with much paperwork and receipts. Im happy with the price $600. It does turn over freely but wont start. I believe the problem is in the carbs as they are pouring out fuel from the bottom of them. Any suggestions for me to get this thing started will be greatly greatly appreciated. Also, should I be able to shift through all the gears while the bike is not started? I currently feel only 1 or 2 clicks so im worried about this tranny, should I be??

that forum is full of very helpful folks.  really helped me rebuild my $170 '81 CB750.

carbs are the biggest issues with these bikes, dollars to donuts it's what's keeping that bike from running.

the GM-Coil mod was a MAJOR improvement too... listed on the 750c forum.

+1 on the carbs and they are a pain to get off and on. The best way I have found to get the carbs off is to loosen the airbox and slide it back and with the carbs loose pull them out between the engine and airbox. I have a 81 and that is the only I have found that will work.

It sometimes helps to turn the real wheel why trying to shift  thru the gears.
