If anyone has a picture of a well designed (if there is such a thing) belly pan I'll all eyes. By using a deeper oil pan and having the exhaust collector under that, two problems arise. No room between the pan & exhaust, and so to surround the exhaust plus be wide enough for a 550 bottom end can make for a bloody large containment.

I've seen hundreds, but rarely any with deeper pans, CB400's or 500's would be great. Anyway it's certainly do-able, just another challenge to make something trick.

Here's the bellypan I made in aluminum for my CB350 race bike....not a CB550.....but I had the same issues as you.

Thanks Greg. That's about what I had in mind and I've got some thin aluminum, but I'm playing with cardboard for the time being.

Tell me about it Brent, I have to make one that holds at least 5 quarts of liquid.  Can't be a "turkey pan" style whatever that is.

I'm surprised that cannister collective edge is so blue. I've seen a lot of Ti pipes too. It must be very straight. Nice, big opening.

Yes, that is a nice looking pipe. I tried to find more on that bike but to no avail, i would love to hear that pipe. Does the pipe look familiar Mike.?

No Mick. I'd say something in that 3.5"...maybe 4" diameter with the outlet 2.5. Nice pipe. Japanese guys. Christ..they'll make anything out of anything out of Ti. That thing is straight.....believe me.

Looks like a nice little tank slapper { thumb breaker} at some stage...

Looking at that pipe, the yoshi style Honda pipes from years gone past look similar up to the muffler, i wonder what difference it would make to performance, if any,  by putting a canister style muffler over the end of the Yoshi, it would then look very similar to the pipe on that yellow bike. Remove the baffle from the Yoshi style pipe of course...?  Comments....

hei brent,

might be a little late but at least here, the triumph thruxton cup guys had a pretty useful belly pan that some other vintage guys used too, made by "platic bike" if i recall right.

I used one off the Hornet 600 cup kit but never liked the fit and design of it, but this was what i got and as we all know, temporary fixes are pretty fixed :)

Might want to have a look what the triumph guys used in the US?

On our Cb500 racer we have an CB650 oilpan and we use an oil catch tray/bellypan .

I bought it in Holland , is called ' olie opvang bak in dutch :link
I made a modification on the right side of it because the exhaust pipe is coming out there.
We have to use these oilcatch trays in all the dutch championship raceclasses.
