550 custom exhaust questions - need measurements please.
« on: December 09, 2010, 06:53:12 PM »
I'm picking up a 550K tomorrow for $400 buck for a winter project.

I think I will pretty much try and restore in to factory conditions except the exhaust.. The exhaust to re do the way it's supposed to is soooo expensive it'll be beyond me money wise to make back factory.

The pipes how the are now have been cut off just around the turn of the front of the frame and the opening sits right underneath the engine.

I want to some how connect a Y-Pipe to create a 2-1 pipe on either side, run a pipe a little longer, and then run those commando peashooter exhaust out the back (one on each side) - (flared up and angle on both sides.)

Anyone messed with any DOM piping and know the I.D. and O.D. of the exhaust for the 550K? Anyone know where I can locate the Y-Pipe to fit?

I was hoping to find some piping that had a decreased diameter on the edges so I can fit the two pipes together and run a weld around the diameter. I want one pipe to fit inside the other, but when the pipes are mated up it looks like one continuous flow of pipe (minus the small weld)

Does that make sense?

Any direction with this would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance for the help guys..

Help me save another sohc from the dumpster!!   :D

(P.S.) Posting pics tomorrow, the wheels are just turning and I'm trying to get a head start!
