'78 550k Kill Switch not killing anything
« on: December 14, 2010, 02:20:08 PM »
Working on the rebuild, and got the bike running.  Problem is, the key is the only way to stop the motor.  Any reason the kill switch wouldn't be functioning?  It's my understanding that the switch must be centered in order to complete the circuit and provide power to the coils.  Could the contacts be buggered, making them unable to disconnect?  How would I test the functionality with a multimeter?  Thanks!

It has a black wire input and a Blk/wht wire output.  There should only be continuity through it when the switch is in the RUN position.

You sure the switch hasn't been bypassed?

Wire harness appeared stock.  A bypass would just be a jumper between the black and the black/white somewhere?

Yeah. Could be in the headlight bucket.  I think that's where the bar control wires get connected to the rest of the bike with this model.

There is more than one black wire going to the bar control.   But, if you monitor the BLk/Wht for voltage.  The Black you disconnect and cause the power lost on the Blk/Wht, is the wire of interest in this case.
