Heckfire that snowbike is wicked nice.

I bet here in the snowy north/east parts of California the goll-durned tree huggers will
not hear of a bike like that on the slopes though, you'd have to do some reconnaissance to find some snowy terrain far from any homes, maybe roadside.

That one looks outrageously fun, if you fall its like a snow cushion catch you.
Get wild and crazy with no worries.

Back in the late 1960's there was a start-up firm in the USA that had a conversion kit for that type of design.  You took a motorcycle and replaced the front wheel with a ski and the rear with a track drive.  I was a student in university at the time and wrote to them inquiring about starting a franchise in Canada, and much to my surprise they responded in a positive way.  After looking at my stack of books and my empty pockets, I reluctantly walked away...but I always dreamed: "What if ?"  I also wondered how good (and fun 8)) they would be in the snow - but then along came Bombardier.  Their track design snowmobile sits much lower to the ground and is hence more stable, I would assume than it would be sitting atop a motorcycle frame with no gyroscopic balance.  (Believe me, the snow isn't always a soft landing and there are often rocks, logs, or other things hidden under it.)

I've been digging through my dad's old cycle mags from the 70's and I read a test they did on a setup like that. They had two bikes set up, one was a norton commando.

I remember a magazine test of that thing, the other bike they strapped it to was a KZ900... It was wayyy up in the air and looked pretty scary.
