I saw that's how you did but wasn't sure how to lock the cam gear in place. I don't want to put all that tension on the chain and locking up the teeth of the cam gear seems wrong too. Is it a reverse thread? I don't have the proper manual so I'm reluctant to start pulling on something.

 I don't have a manual anymore, either. Gave it to the new owner.
 Can you stick a screwdriver in the holes on the cam gear to hold it? The bolts shouldn't be that hard to break loose.
