ok,micks tail pipe worked out perfect, even better than i thought it would,it was an open megaphone and needed quietening,i bought some perforated pipe,i found an automotive water pump pulley that sleeved over the end of the megaphone as if it was made for it ,so off came the vee belt ring and i plugged the four drive bolt holes with stainless button head allen bolts(bling),we have a mig at work so i got my mate to weld a sleeve to the pulley hub that goes over the perforated pipe,i got a bed spring from a local mattress manufacturer for nothing and it holds tention on the tube inside the cone,i wrapped it with insulation glass wool i found, should be on the road next week once i get it passed by the roadworthy guy and registered.

Good stuff Dave, glad it worked out for you. I returned your email today but may as well ask for the forums sake, how did you end up joining the tail pipe to those headers mate.?

this is how it ended up,i swapped engines and exhausts between the two bikes i have, this now has the 500 engine and exhaust,i came back to it parked at the local shops to find a guy checking it out up close,i said gday and we talked about old bikes,he took my number as i said its for sale,i thought that would be the last i saw of him but he rang the next day and came to check it out further,he has a gb400 to sell as its too small(pretty big guy)but loves these old bikes, hates fairings.

last update its sold now,,today its gone,i had it on the aussie"just bikes"online advert thing and itll also be in next months printed copy which is now too late to cancel,so i have a whole month of phone calls asking about it to look forward to,,the guy who bought it,,umm,,lives in sydney so i cancelled the registration and lowered the price accordingly,,,he now has to get the nsw roadworthy certificate etc,,,he didnt even ask me one question about the bike,he was here for some seminar or such??he just jumped on it,stamped it into first gear, flew up and down my street twice and its sold,,i dropped it off at a wharehouse this evening and got cash, hes going to organise a truck to pick it up,hes flying back to sydney as i type but had one last thrash up and down the industrial estate untill i pulled the plate and tag from it,he dosent know or didnt ask about anything,,never even crouched down to look close at anything,,just wanted to ride it,,when i asked him about what bikes hes had before i was told 17 years ago he had a virago 250,,i told him to take it easy man, warm it up and dont hammer the transmission,,see ya later.,,this bike will be killed.

Kinda sad, but hopefully it will give someone else a chance to resurrect it later on.
