fork oil or atf
« on: March 19, 2006, 12:48:55 PM »
my clymers manuel suggests using atf fluid for fork oil. i'd guess that the atf is just like using a single weight oil ( atf probably a 5wish). i wanted to change out my fork oil and didn't know if i should use atf or not. any suggestions.

I changed from using ATF to PJ1 fork oil many years ago.  I'd read that there'd be less stiction and the fork more compliant with fork oil.  I didn't believe it would make much difference, but tried it anyway.  I found it was it was true, the fork worked better.  I use PJ1 71/2 weight, 6 oz in each leg.  I change the fork oil every 9000 miles.  I tried 10 wt once, but it was too stiff.  '75 CB750F.
